Plan at a glance

Two separate places

The name “Zhang Jiuling Tomb” can refer to two different places: the Zhang Jiuling family tombs, also known as Jiuling Garden, in the hills behind Tianxin Village, and Zhang Jiuling Memorial Park on Huilong Mountain. They are about 20 minutes apart by car. They are not one continuous scenic area and cannot be covered by the same ticket, entrance, or route.

The family tombs suit a quiet 30–60 minute historical visit and are free to enter. The memorial park suits 2–3 hours of uphill walking, views, and cultural visits, and is also free. The Shaozhou History and Culture Museum inside the memorial park is open Tuesday–Sunday from 09:00–16:30 and closed on Mondays.

How to choose

For tombs, ancestral halls, and a village setting, go to Tianxin Village. For Fengdu Pavilion, city views, and the museum, go to Huilong Mountain. The memorial park on Huilong Mountain is not Zhang Jiuling's burial site.

Choose your visit

Tianxin Village family tombs

The Zhang Jiuling family tombs and Zhang Wensian Ancestral Hall offer a quiet, rural heritage visit. The main subjects are the tombs, inscriptions, ancestral hall, and pine and cypress setting. Facilities are limited, so this suits visitors who like historic sites, family history, and quiet time.

Huilong Mountain Memorial Park

The memorial park focuses on the Tang-style Fengdu Pavilion, summit viewpoint, poetry corridor, and Shaozhou History and Culture Museum. The experience shifts from visiting a burial site to city views and commemorative culture. A sightseeing vehicle reduces the uphill effort, but the park is still a sloped mountain attraction.

Which place to choose

Choose Tianxin Village for tombs and the village setting. Choose Huilong Mountain for elevated views, architecture, and the museum. They can be visited on the same day, but they are not one continuous scenic area, so use the specific place name rather than the shorthand “Zhang Jiuling Tomb.”

Build your day

Tianxin Village route

The family tomb visit can follow “ancestral hall → tombs → inscriptions → quiet time among the trees.” There is no need to turn the hills behind the village into a long hike. Leave time for quiet observation and follow the site's conservation rules.

Huilong Mountain route

Follow “South Gate or East Gate → sightseeing vehicle or walk uphill → Fengdu Pavilion → Shaozhou History and Culture Museum → summit viewpoint → poetry corridor → return.” If sunset is the priority, shorten the museum stop. Once the museum is closed, closed floors cannot be visited.

Get there

Driving

For the family tombs, navigate to “Zhang Wensian Ancestral Hall” or “Jiuling Garden”; free parking is available in the village. For the memorial park, navigate to the East Gate or South Gate, where there is a parking area, although weekend visitors may need to look for nearby alternatives. Navigate to the two locations separately rather than entering the vague destination “Zhang Jiuling Tomb” and following the default route.

Public transport

For the memorial park, take bus routes 4, 17, or 23, or the Shaozhou Avenue special route, to “Jiuling Park Station” or “Shaoye Fourth Village Station,” then walk about 700 m. The family tombs are more remote, and public transport is less convenient than driving or taking a taxi. The memorial park bus plan cannot simply be reused for the tombs.

Know before you go

Return time and sightseeing vehicle

The last downhill sightseeing vehicle from the memorial park usually leaves around 17:30–18:00. If you stay for the night view, walking down may take 40–60 minutes. The summit can be windy, and lighting and supplies are limited after dark. A flashlight and light jacket are more useful than staying on the summit too late.

Museum hours

The Shaozhou History and Culture Museum is closed on Mondays and currently opens only some floors. Do not assume every floor is available. If the museum is a priority, reach the indoor entrance before 16:30.

Place names

Build the itinerary around a choice between the family tombs and the memorial park rather than combining them into one large attraction. Nanhua Temple, the Maba Man Ruins, and Fengcai Tower can be nearby additions, but their ticketing and opening rules need separate planning.
