Plan at a glance
Location and time inside the lane
Zhuji Ancient Lane Museum is inside the Zhuji Ancient Lane scenic area. Allow 30–60 minutes. Its main themes are Guangfu migration, surname culture, and related intangible heritage. The lane is generally open 07:00–18:30, but the indoor museum usually stops admitting visitors around 17:00 and may close for maintenance on Mondays.
The museum is covered by the Zhuji Ancient Lane ticket. The reference adult price is CNY 40, with possible discounts through some channels or on site. The lane may allow free evening entry after 18:00, but that is normally too late to plan an indoor museum visit.
Relationship to the lane route
The museum's indoor cultural content is different from the full outdoor lane route. Visitors who also want the ancestral halls, Guifei Pagoda, Shashui Lake, and Sima Bridge can place the museum in the middle of a daytime visit. It is not a separately ticketed attraction.

Guangfu migration history
The museum explains the southward migration of Central Plains communities during the Tang and Song periods, and the relationship between Zhuji Ancient Lane and Guangfu migration. Build the historical background indoors first, then decide whether to continue to the surname halls and village architecture in the lane.
Surname and intangible heritage
The surname-culture gallery, intangible-heritage hall, and dragon-boat song teaching material make the museum more than a general local-history museum. Festival discovery cards, demonstrations by heritage bearers, or hands-on activities may have limited times and should be treated as optional additions.
Indoor museum versus outdoor lane
The museum is best for a daytime indoor visit, while the lane offers a longer outdoor walk and a closer look at village life. Evening free entry may apply to the lane, but it does not extend the museum's indoor hours.
Build your day
Museum first
Place the museum near the beginning of the daytime route. Start with Guangfu migration, surname culture, and intangible-heritage displays, then visit the surname records wall to look for your own surname. The museum needs at least 30–60 minutes; families and visitors tracing their roots may want longer.
Continue into the lane
After leaving the museum, follow the main lane to the ancestral-hall group, Shashui Lake, Guifei Pagoda, and Sima Bridge. There is no need to repeat every gate tower and street in the museum description. If it is close to 17:00, finish the indoor visit first and use the remaining time for the outdoor route only if practical.
Get there
Entering the scenic area
Drive to the Zhuji Ancient Lane ticket office; parking is the same as for the ancient lane. By public transport, transfer from Shaoguan Station to Nanxiong Bus Station, then take bus 7 or a taxi. The museum has no separate outside entrance, so do not treat “Zhuji Ancient Lane Museum” as a transport destination separate from the lane.
After entering the scenic area, ask where the indoor exhibition is and when entry stops that day. If you arrive only after 18:00, plan a walk through the lane rather than trying to buy a museum visit or wait for indoor services that have already ended.
Know before you go
Indoor and outdoor time difference
The lane may remain open into the evening, while the museum may close around 17:00 and may also be under maintenance on Mondays. This time difference is the key planning condition. The lane's opening hours do not replace the museum's indoor hours.
Ticket boundary
The museum is included in the Zhuji Ancient Lane ticket and is not a second separately ticketed attraction. Possible free evening entry applies to the outdoor walking area, not the indoor museum displays.
What to wear and bring
The lane outside is paved with cobblestones, so wear flat shoes with good grip and bring sun protection and insect repellent in summer. Nanxiong food is spicy; if you combine the visit with Meiguan Ancient Post Road or a meal outside the lane, mention your spice tolerance and leave time for the return journey.
