Plan at a glance
A one-way drive through a science-and-nature valley
The Guanmen Mountain entrance is beside G209, and the sights follow the Shicao River valley along an approximately 8-kilometre one-way road. It is best visited by private or hired car, driving from the far end toward the main gate. At each stop, park and walk a short distance to the exhibition hall or activity area.
The single-entry ticket is CNY 95 per person and is also covered by the Shennongjia six-area pass. Opening hours are about 07:30–17:30 from April 1 to October 7 and about 08:00–17:00 from October 8 to March 31. Tickets are usually available on site. Entry methods based only on a Chinese ID do not work for every visitor; overseas visitors should confirm a passport-based ticket route in advance.
How much time to allow
Allow about 1.5–2 hours for Daxiongmao Guan (大熊猫馆, the panda house), Xuanya Fengxiang (悬崖蜂箱, the cliffside beehives) and the entrance statue. To add the museum, Dixia Anhe (地下暗河, the underground river) and Yeren Dong (野人洞, Wild Man Cave), allow 3–4 hours. Include the time for the cave activity, exhibition halls and parking in the overall plan rather than estimating only from the 8-kilometre road length.

Exhibition halls and nature experiences
Daxiongmao Guan is an easy family stop. Ziran Shengtai Bowuguan (自然生态博物馆, an ecology museum) has plant and animal specimens and a 4D cinema, turning part of the mountain drive into an educational visit. Dixia Anhe is explored by boat and is cool inside; Yeren Dong is in the research exhibition area and uses light, sound and electronic effects to present a primeval setting.
Xuanya Fengxiang sit on the rock face beside the road and are a distinctive Guanmen Mountain stop. The Yeren Muzi Xiang (野人母子像, Wild Man mother-and-child sculpture) at the entrance is convenient for a brief visit before leaving. The Dani Keyan Qu (大鲵科研区, giant salamander research area) and smaller exhibition spaces depend on that day’s opening arrangements; the panda individuals on display and interaction activities may also change on site.
Who is it for?
Families can combine Ziran Shengtai Bowuguan, Daxiongmao Guan and Dixia Anhe. Photographers can make short stops at Xuanya Fengxiang and the entrance sculpture. Visitors who want a relaxed selection of sights can take the quick route, while those interested in exhibits should allow 3–4 hours for the highlights route.
Build your day
1.5–2-hour quick route
After entering, drive toward the far end of the road, then stop from the inside outward at Daxiongmao Guan and Xuanya Fengxiang. Finish at Yeren Muzi Xiang by the main gate. Every stop follows the one-way road; park and walk according to the open-area signs. This route suits a tight schedule or a day that includes other Muyu-area sights.
3–4-hour highlights route
Start at the far end and visit Dani Keyan Qu, Ziran Shengtai Bowuguan, Dixia Anhe and Yeren Dong in order. Continue to Daxiongmao Guan and Xuanya Fengxiang, then leave through the main gate. The underground-river boat ride is short, but allow time for queues and for adjusting to the cooler cave temperature. If an exhibition hall is closed, skip that stop and keep following the one-way road.
Peak-period traffic and parking
Parking and road congestion are possible during holidays and the summer peak. For the 3–4-hour highlights route, enter as early as possible and reduce the number of stops if traffic is heavy, completing the return before closing. Parking areas are near the main sights, but spaces can be tight in peak periods. Driving to the far end first and then outward lets vehicles leave in stages and makes it easier to shorten the route when needed.
Get there
Entrance on G209
Navigate to “Guanmen Mountain Scenic Area”; the main gate is beside G209. Once inside, follow the one-way road, which connects the exhibition halls along the valley. Visitors using a hired car should tell the driver that they want the complete one-way route, rather than stopping only at the main gate.
Driving and parking
Driving is the most practical option because the sights are separated by the valley road and public transport cannot cover every stop. Parking along the route is usually free, but spaces change with peak-period traffic. After each exhibition hall, return to the vehicle and continue toward the main gate in the signed direction.
Know before you go
Temperature inside the cave and around the beehives
Dixia Anhe is cool inside, so bring a light jacket even in summer. Near Xuanya Fengxiang, do not approach, hit or loudly disturb the bees. Photograph from the road and open viewing areas. Some smaller stops may close temporarily; adjust the visit to the areas open that day.
There are streams within the scenic area, but remain in safe areas rather than entering the water. Traffic near the gate, queues inside the cave and exhibition-hall opening times can affect the pace. If congestion builds, keep clear priority stops such as Daxiongmao Guan, the museum or Xuanya Fengxiang and do not drive against the one-way system to recover a missed stop.
Water and food
Food choices inside Guanmen Mountain are limited. Prepare water and snacks in Muyu Town before entering; temporary stalls may not open every day. Dixia Anhe, Ziran Shengtai Bowuguan and other exhibition areas require different amounts of time, and returning to Muyu for a meal is more convenient after the visit.
