Independent historic residence visit
Prince Qing Mansion is at 55 Chongqing Road in Heping District. Although it lies within the Five Great Avenues, it has its own archway, ticket check, and one-way route. A quick visit takes about one hour; allow 1.5–2 hours for the displays, building details, and rear garden. The Five Great Avenues is a free public district, but that does not provide direct access to the residence.
Tickets and opening
An adult ticket is about CNY24. Students and visitors aged 60–69 pay half price, while some children, visitors aged 70 or above, and retired military personnel may enter free under the policy. Opening is around 9:00–17:30, with last entry at 17:00, but opening dates may change; check the day’s notice before departure. Reservation requirements, ticket channels, and same-day access must be confirmed separately, as the Five Great Avenues’ open-street status does not apply to Prince Qing Mansion.

Architectural craft
The three-colour glazed columns on the second floor, the filigree glass at the entrance, the wood carvings on the third floor, and the old trees in the courtyard show how Chinese and Western architectural craft meet. The exterior Western facade, interior courtyard, light wells, and corridors together form the main experience, suitable for visitors interested in architecture, modern history, and photography.
Rear garden and a break
Rockeries, a pavilion, and a fountain in the rear garden offer a different pace from the indoor rooms. Whether the Doyuan rest area and other in-house facilities are open, and whether they require additional spending, follows the day’s arrangements. Afternoon tea is optional, and the garden seating is not the same as public seating in the Five Great Avenues.
Build your day
A one-hour short route
After checking in at the Chongqing Road entrance, follow the one-way route from the first-floor hall with its chandelier and filigree glass to the second-floor corridor and glazed columns, then finish at the rear garden and exit. Turning back is difficult on the one-way route, so take photos only where stopping is allowed and do not walk against the flow for a better angle.
A 1.5–2 hour full route
Follow the order of entrance, first-floor displays, second-floor corridors and rooms, third-floor wood-carving area, and rear garden. If a free guided tour is offered, confirm its meeting time and coverage at the entrance before deciding whether to wait. After leaving, continue through the public Five Great Avenues, but plan the additional walk, meal, and other paid attractions separately.
Get there
Metro and bus
Take Metro Line 1 to Xiaobailou Station. From Exit B, walk about 10 minutes to 55 Chongqing Road. Buses such as 619, 906, and 954 stop near Chongqing Road. Navigate to the residence archway and street number rather than looking for an interior entrance through Minyuan Square’s underground passage or another villa.
Driving and walking in the district
Parking in the Five Great Avenues is limited. If driving, check legitimate parking such as the underground facility near Minyuan Square first, then walk into the district. Fees and available spaces follow on-site conditions. Chongqing Road has residential and office activity, so do not block passage while taking photos or waiting.
Know before you go
Guided tours, one-way flow, and weather
Guided-tour times can change with staff and activities, so times such as 10:00 and 15:00 are not fixed promises. Rain, snow, and heat affect the rear garden and the walk. The indoor route still includes stairs; wear shoes with good grip and take care on steps with older visitors and young children.
Visit with the Five Great Avenues
Prince Qing Mansion’s tickets, opening, and displays are completely separate from the Five Great Avenues. Treat it as a paid indoor stop within a wider district walk. St. Joseph Cathedral, Porcelain House, and the former residences can be later stops, but each has different opening times, religious etiquette, or reservation conditions.
Ticket types
Check the conditions for discounted tickets, free-admission documents, and guided-tour packages separately. If the day’s price or package changes, use the entrance notice and official ticket page rather than inferring it from another paid stop in the Five Great Avenues.
Time in the garden
The rear garden is part of the one-way route. Surfaces and rockery edges may be slippery after rain, so stay on the path and do not cross the landscape boundary for photos. The inner courtyard is for visitors and is not a public passage through the district.
