How to Visit

Come in the late afternoon or evening
Tongren Ancient City is in downtown Tongren, and the Zhongnanmen area works best from late afternoon into evening. Walk the old streets and archway first, then wait for the Jinjiang riverside lights and finish with dinner or late-night snacks.
Tip:Daytime is better for architectural details, while evening is better for atmosphere and river views.

The old-city area is free
The old-city streets are free and open all day. Zhou Yiqun's Former Residence, Tongren Museum, and similar venues are usually free or low-cost, but they may have daytime opening hours and registration requirements.
Tip:Do not confuse "the old city is open all day" with "all museums and halls are open all day."

Use a short walking route
With limited time, walk Zhongnanmen City Wall, Fuzi Jinshi Archway, Feishan Palace, the area around Zhou Yiqun's Former Residence, then Jinjiang riverside path. Most visitors can cover the core in 1.5-2 hours.
Tip:If you also want to climb to Dongshan Temple for the city view and night scene, allow extra time and energy for the uphill walk.

Use taxis for city transport
From Tongren Railway Station, it takes about ten minutes by taxi to reach the old city. If you stay downtown, evening transport is also easy. Drivers can park near Jinjiang Square, but spaces are tight on holidays.
Tip:The old city works well on an arrival day or the night before departure; it does not need your best full daytime block.
