Season and the four swan-watching points
Rongcheng Swan Lake refers to several separate swan-watching points along the Rongcheng coast. The reference season is November through March, with December and January better suited to a focused visit. The four points are Honghuwan Photography Area, Rongcheng National Nature Reserve for Whooper Swans, Yandunjiao Swan Seaview Area and the Naxianghai Swan Lake Viewing Point; all four are listed as free and require no reservation.
The four points are far apart, so driving or a 1–2 day plan works best. Honghuwan's reference opening period is November 1 to March 31, 05:30–09:00, while the Naxianghai viewing point lists reference hours of 08:00–16:00; the other points follow the opening and weather arrangements for the day.
How much time to allow
If time is limited, choose either Rongcheng National Nature Reserve for Whooper Swans or the Naxianghai Swan Lake Viewing Point and allow about two hours for watching and photography. For a first swan-watching trip in Rongcheng, plan 1–2 days and separate the sunrise, wetland sunset, Yandunjiao village and Naxianghai Ferris-wheel background into different stops.

Eastern sunrise line: Honghuwan
Honghuwan suits early-morning photography of sunrise, the bay curve and flying swans, usually within the reference 05:30–09:00 viewing window. It is best for photographers and visitors willing to get up early; the coast is windy in winter, so bring a windproof warm layer while waiting for a position.
Central wetland and sunset line: the national nature reserve
Rongcheng National Nature Reserve for Whooper Swans brings wetland, reeds and swans into one viewing area, with time for longer photography around sunset. It suits families, nature observation and photography; feeding and close interaction are not guaranteed, so keep a respectful distance from the swans.
Western seagrass-house line: Yandunjiao
Yandunjiao Swan Seaview Area combines a seagrass-house fishing village, coastal viewing and swans and seabirds in the same frame. Park at the village entrance and walk in; the flat stone paths are suitable for a slow visit, while early morning and late afternoon provide better light for the houses, coast and birds.
Naxianghai background point
The Naxianghai Swan Lake Viewing Point suits a short visit focused on swans with the Ferris wheel in the background, without walking through a whole village route. Its beach, windmills and Jiming Island Visitor Center belong to separate Naxianghai experiences; use the viewing point's own opening hours and parking arrangements.

A two-hour single-point route
According to your accommodation and the day's light, choose Rongcheng National Nature Reserve for Whooper Swans or the Naxianghai Swan Lake Viewing Point as the day's only destination. Walk to the viewing area, watch and photograph the swans, then return the way you came; do not compress the time at each point just to visit all four.
A 1–2 day regional route
Use Honghuwan for the eastern sunrise line, Rongcheng National Nature Reserve for the central wetland and sunset line, Yandunjiao for the western seagrass-house line, and the Ferris-wheel background point near Naxianghai for the final stop. The four points require driving between them, and the order can change with your accommodation, weather and sunrise and sunset times.
A 1–1.5 hour Yandunjiao short route
Park at the entrance to Yandunjiao Village and walk along the flat stone paths to the coastal viewing area. Watch the swans and seabirds, photograph the seagrass houses and return. The short route works well as one stop on the Rongcheng East Coast, with the village explored mainly on foot after parking.
A 2–3 hour slower Yandunjiao route
Enter the village in the afternoon, follow the village roads to see the seagrass houses and fishing-village life, then go to the coast for the evening light and finish with a meal in the village. Winter winds are strong, so keep warm while photographing the swans, seabirds and houses, and watch the stone paths and peak-period photography crowds.

Driving and point-by-point navigation
Driving is the most practical way to visit Rongcheng Swan Lake because the four swan-watching points are spread along the coast. Each point has its own navigation destination and entrance: “Honghuwan Photography Area,” “Rongcheng Swan Lake National Park” or “Jinling Swan Lake,” “Yandunjiao Swan Seaview Area” and “Naxianghai Swan Lake Viewing Point.”
A taxi from central Weihai to a core swan-watching point costs a reference CNY 150. You can also take an intercity bus from Weihai Coach Station towards Rongcheng. After arriving at each point, walk for the viewing; continue driving or take another vehicle only for the transfer to the next point.
Yandunjiao parking and walking
For Yandunjiao, navigate to “Yandunjiao Village,” park at the village entrance and walk into the village. The reference parking fee is CNY 10 per visit. The village roads are fairly flat, and the seagrass-house lanes and coastal viewing points can be covered on foot.
Know before you go
Winter weather and road conditions
Winter winds on the coast are strong and the perceived temperature is low. A windproof coat, hat and gloves are more useful than simply adding another light layer. Snow and wind can temporarily close a point or make roads slippery, so drivers should adjust the viewing order to the day's road conditions.
Swan watching and feeding
Corn kernels may be available as a limited aid for swan watching, but feeding and close interaction are not guaranteed. Keep your distance from swans and seabirds and follow the arrangements on site. Early morning and late afternoon have better light; on busy winter weekends, choose a weekday if you want quieter seagrass-house streets.
Yandunjiao food and village services
Food quality in Yandunjiao varies. Check recent reviews of fishing-family restaurants and farm restaurants before choosing where to eat. Some public facilities are basic, and parking, food, swan watching and accommodation follow separate arrangements in the village on the day.
