Access options and entrance choice
Jiangxin Islet is off Wangjiang East Road in Lucheng District, Wenzhou. The usual way to reach it is by ferry from South Pier. Drivers can also cross Dong'ou Bridge directly to the West Garden area, but road access and the South Pier ferry have different ticketing, parking and return arrangements.
The ferry takes about 5-10 minutes. An adult ticket costs about CNY 30 and usually includes a return boat ticket and island admission; the local resident fare is about CNY 6. The scenic area is usually open from 08:00 to 22:00, with ticket sales until about 19:30. Ferries generally run from about 08:00 to 21:00 at intervals of 30-40 minutes, but the exact services follow the day's arrangement.
Time needed and suitable visitors
Seeing only West Pier, Song Garden, Lingyun Bridge and Jiangxin Temple takes about 1.5-2 hours. For a first visit covering the two pagodas, temples, the Former British Consulate and Gongqing Lake, allow 3-4 hours. The attractions are spread across the islet, and the amount of walking has a clear effect on the total time.
Jiangxin Islet suits visitors interested in historic buildings, urban photography, family trips and half-day city walks. Visitors who enjoy an evening breeze or sunset can arrive in the late afternoon, but should consider the last ferry and the earlier closing time of indoor venues together.

The two pagodas and Jiangxin Temple
The East and West Pagodas are the easiest historic landmarks to recognise on Jiangxin Islet. Look for the sightline between them from Lingyun Bridge, Xiegong Pavilion and the riverside paths. Jiangxin Temple and its inscriptions are best visited in daylight; indoor areas may close earlier than the scenic area as a whole.
Song Garden and the Former British Consulate
Song Garden is built around Song-style landscaping, a lotus pond and stone bridges, making it a short stop for photographing architectural lines. The Former British Consulate in Wenzhou is a European-style building, and some floors or exhibition rooms may have separate opening times. It may be closed on Mondays, so allow daytime for entry.
Choosing a comfortable pace
Visitors who want to reduce walking can use the island sightseeing vehicle, with a listed one-way fare of about CNY 10. Those who prefer to walk can move from West Pier toward the eastern historic buildings, then return to Gongqing Lake or the riverside for sunset. The island has many trees and limited supply points, so families should bring water and mosquito repellent.
Build your day
A two-hour ferry short route
Take the ferry from South Pier to West Pier, then use the sightseeing vehicle or walk to Song Garden. Continue to Lingyun Bridge, the West Pagoda, Jiangxin Temple and the Former British Consulate, then move toward the East Pagoda before returning to the pier. This suits visitors with limited time who want the main historic buildings on a first visit.
If the indoor venues have already closed, spend the time at the two pagodas, Song Garden and the riverside paths. Ferries run about every 30-40 minutes, so return to the pier early and leave walking time before the last boat.
A 3-4 hour complete route
Enter from South Pier and visit Song Garden, Lingyun Bridge, the West Pagoda, Jiangxin Temple, the Banyan Embracing Camphor, the Former British Consulate, the East Pagoda, Xiegong Pavilion and Gongqing Lake in sequence. The walk is long; the sightseeing vehicle can reduce some of the backtracking between West Pier and the eastern historic buildings.
Put Jiangxin Temple and the Former British Consulate into the daytime opening period, and leave Gongqing Lake or the riverside paths for sunset and night scenery. If you want to fit in the ferry, indoor visits and sunset, arrive in the earlier part of the afternoon.
An evening and night route
Arrive at about 16:00, visit Song Garden, the two pagodas and Jiangxin Temple first, then go to Gongqing Lake or the riverside paths for the Ou River view at sunset. Photograph the pagodas after the lights come on, then take the last ferry off the islet. This suits a relaxed photography visit, but work backward from the last boat instead of walking to the pier at the last minute.
If you plan to stay into the night, confirm first that ferries are still running and return to the pier at least 20 minutes early. Drivers leaving from West Garden should also allow for holiday traffic and queues at the car park exit.
Get there
Ferry from South Pier
Take a taxi or bus to South Pier, buy the applicable ticket and board the ferry. The crossing takes about 5-10 minutes. Check what the ticket includes, including the ferry and island admission, and remember the return pier and last service after arriving.
Dong'ou Bridge and West Garden
Drivers can cross Dong'ou Bridge to West Garden. Parking there is limited and congestion is common on holidays. Road access suits visitors carrying luggage or those who prefer not to take a boat, but after entering West Garden you still need to walk or use the sightseeing vehicle to reach the other historic areas.
City transport and parking
Public transport can take you to South Pier, where you continue on foot to buy a ticket and board. Drivers can also park opposite the pier and take the ferry. The convenience of West Garden, South Pier and the nearby car parks varies, so choose according to the access method you will use that day.
Know before you go
Last ferry and indoor closures
Ferries usually finish at about 21:00 and run at 30-40 minute intervals. Even if the scenic area remains open until 22:00, do not assume that ferries operate until the area closes. Jiangxin Temple and similar indoor venues may close at about 17:00, and the Former British Consulate may be closed on Mondays.
Walking, mosquitoes and supplies
The walk from West Pier to the eastern historic buildings is long. The sightseeing vehicle can reduce part of the distance but does not replace all walking between attractions. The islet has many trees, so mosquito repellent is useful in summer; prepare water and simple food in advance.
Ticket scope and city combinations
The ferry, island admission, sightseeing vehicle and food on Jiangxin Islet are charged separately. Wuma Street, Mochi Park and other urban attractions can be combined before or after the islet on the same day, but they do not share the Jiangxin ticket and should not be treated as a direct walk from the islet.
