Plan at a glance

Entrance and location

Xiaoyao Valley is inside Wudang Mountains Scenic Area, near Taizipo, and has no separate ticket office. Once inside the scenic area, take the shuttle from the visitor center to Taizipo, then transfer to a Nanyan-direction vehicle according to the day's schedule and get off at the “Xiaoyao Valley” stop.

Tickets and time needed

Xiaoyao Valley uses the main scenic-area ticketing: adult entry is CNY126, the CNY164 pass includes the Golden Summit and Zixiao Palace, and the scenic shuttle is purchased separately at CNY76. Allow about 30 minutes for Tianjin Bridge, 1–1.5 hours to walk deeper into the valley, or 2–3 hours for a longer route connecting to other trails.

Choose your visit

Jiudu Stream scenery

Jiudu Stream runs through the valley, with streams, pools, and waterfalls forming Xiaoyao Valley's main scenery. Boardwalks and forest paths connect the route, which is generally linear. The best pace is to focus on the water, bridges, and plants along the way.

Tianjin Bridge and the Laozi Riding Ox statue

Tianjin Bridge, first built in the Yuan dynasty, is the valley's best-known ancient bridge and the key stop on the short route. Continue farther to see the Laozi Riding Ox statue; the bridge, streamside boardwalk, and wooden waterwheel are all good subjects for valley photography.

Birds and monkeys

The valley's wildlife includes the Plumbeous Water Redstart (红尾水鸲), a streamside bird, as well as wild macaques. Keep your distance from monkeys and pass quietly on open paths. The valley suits visitors who enjoy streams, nature observation, and light hiking.

Choose the right walking style

With limited time, take the Tianjin Bridge short route. If you want more stream scenery, continue along Jiudu Stream; if the trail is open that day, you can also continue toward the Fuzhen Temple back trail at Taizipo or toward Zixiao Palace. Martial-arts performances are not a fixed program, so make the valley and ancient bridge the core of the visit.

Build your day

The 30-minute short route

From the Xiaoyao Valley entrance, follow the boardwalk to Tianjin Bridge, stop for photos, and return the same way. The route takes about 30 minutes and has almost no notable climb. It works well after Taizipo or Zixiao Palace; check the next shuttle direction before leaving the stop.

The one- to one-and-a-half-hour highlights route

Enter → Tianjin Bridge → continue deeper along the Jiudu Stream trail → observe birds and monkeys from open areas → turn back near the Laozi Riding Ox statue. Allow about 1–1.5 hours. If a boardwalk is closed, turn back at the barrier and keep the Tianjin Bridge and the entrance section as the visit.

The two- to three-hour deep route

If your stamina and the weather are suitable, walk downhill from the trail behind Fuzhen Temple at Taizipo into Xiaoyao Valley, or walk from Xiaoyao Valley toward Zixiao Palace; either connection takes about 2–3 hours. Confirm the day's open area and trail condition before choosing either connection, then plan the scenic shuttle out of the area.

Get there

From outside to the visitor center

From Wudangshan West Railway Station, take Route 301 or a taxi to the Wudangshan Visitor Center. From Shiyan Wudangshan Airport, take the airport shuttle to the scenic area. When driving, navigate to “Wudangshan Visitor Center,” park at the foot of the mountain, and transfer to the scenic shuttle; there is no metro service locally.

Transfers inside the scenic area

Before leaving the visitor center, confirm whether a transfer at Taizipo is needed and whether the vehicle is going toward Nanyan. Get off at Xiaoyao Valley when the stop is announced. For the return, use the Xiaoyao Valley station sign and the day's route and dispatch information rather than borrowing a last-departure time from another direction.

Know before you go

Reservations, opening, and tickets

Xiaoyao Valley has no separate reservation, but entry to the main scenic area still follows Wudang's real-name ticketing and reservation arrangements. On ordinary days, the scenic area typically operates around 07:30–17:30, with entry stopping at 17:30. Holiday schedules, rainy-season conditions, and temporary controls may differ.

Rainy season and trails

After summer rain or when water levels rise during the flood season, streamside boardwalks may close temporarily. Check the weather before setting out, then read the barriers and opening notices when you arrive. Wear shoes with good grip on wet sections, stay on the trail, and keep out of closed river sections.

Monkeys and photography

Monkeys are wild animals: do not approach, tease, or feed them, and keep fruit and snacks inside your bag. Photograph Tianjin Bridge, the stream, and the wooden waterwheel from open paths, keeping the bridge and boardwalk clear for other visitors.

Supplies and the return

Food and supplies are limited inside the scenic area, so bring enough water and simple food. After the visit, take the shuttle down and eat in Wudangshan Town. Confirm the return shuttle before starting the deep route; if a trail closes temporarily, use the open short route.
