Area and entrance
Qingming Bridge Ancient Grand Canal Scenic Area is in the southern part of central Wuxi. Its main area covers the Grand Canal, Qingming Bridge, Nanchang Street and Nanxia Tang, within the section associated with the Grand Canal World Cultural Heritage site. The north entrance is the usual starting point. Walk from Nanchan Temple to the Canal Ancient Town Archway; from Exit 3 of Nanchan Temple Station on Metro Line 1, the walk takes about 5–10 minutes.
Ticket, boat service and time needed
The streets are free and open all day, with no reservation required. Canal boats mainly depart from Kuatang Bridge Pier and cost about CNY 100, or about CNY 90 when booked online. They usually operate around 13:00–21:00, with departures about every 30 minutes, but confirm the schedule on site. A quick walk takes about one hour; adding Nanxia Tang, the side lanes and riverside photography takes 2–3 hours.

Bridges, canal heritage and Nanxia Tang
Qingming Bridge is the main landmark. Its deck is good for photographing lanterns, the canal and the modern skyline together, while Dagong Bridge has a wider view of the water and passing boats. Nanxia Tang is narrower and more residential than the main Nanchang Street; the old kiln site outside Dayao Road can still be viewed, but the related museums are currently closed.
Who it suits
Visitors interested in canal culture, industrial heritage, night views and city walks can arrive in the afternoon and stay into the evening. Families and couples can follow the relatively level walking route, while photographers can separate sunset, Qingming Bridge after dark and Nanxia Tang into different photo stops. Nanchang Street is adjacent, but its focus is a street walk; this page is for the canal-heritage route.
Build your day
A 1-hour core walking route
Start from Exit 3 of Nanchan Temple Station, walk south along Nanchang Street through Kuatang Bridge and Dagong Bridge, reach Qingming Bridge for the main view, then cross to Nanxia Tang for a short walk before leaving. This direction covers the principal bridges and both banks in a short visit, without making a special detour for the museums that are currently closed.
A 2–3-hour full route
Start outside Nanchan Temple, walk along the main Nanchang Street through Shengtang Li and Helong, then continue to Dagong Bridge and Qingming Bridge. Cross to Nanxia Tang and finish at Dayao Road to see the old kiln site from outside. If you take a boat, place it before or after the walk at Kuatang Bridge Pier and leave time for queues and the return route; after the boat, you can continue with the night views or leave toward Nanchan Temple.
Get there
Metro and bus
Take Metro Line 1 to Nanchan Temple Station, leave through Exit 3 and walk about 5–10 minutes to the Canal Ancient Town Archway. Buses 23, 24, 111, 358, 505 and 703 stop at Qingming Bridge Ancient Temple Station, about a two-minute walk from Qingming Bridge.
Driving and parking
On holidays, navigate to Wuxi Qiaoyi Middle School parking lot and walk about five minutes to Qingming Bridge. The roads around Shengtang Li and Qingming Bridge are crowded, so park outside the busiest section and walk; include the movement between the parking lot and the boat pier in your route.
Know before you go
Two museums are currently closed
The China Silk Museum at the former Yongtai Silk Factory is currently closed or undergoing interior work. The Wuxi Kiln Sites Museum has been closed for improvement work since May 2025, with a long expected construction period. Plan around the bridges, canal, Nanxia Tang and the exterior of the heritage sites rather than making a special detour for indoor museum visits.
Crowds, boats and local snacks
In summer, arriving after 16:00 lets you walk by the canal before sunset and then see the night lights while avoiding the midday heat. Boats may run around 13:00–21:00 but departures can change, so confirm before buying. Local options nearby include Wuxi xiaolongbao, yulan cakes and wontons; the visiting hours of Nanchan Temple must be planned separately.
