Plan at a glance

Choose an end to start from

North Street runs from Prince Zhaoming Tower (昭明台) in the south to Linhan Gate in the north, and you can enter from either end. For a first visit, start at Linhan Gate and walk south, taking in the elevated wall view before following the main street toward Prince Zhaoming Tower.

Free street area and opening hours

North Street, Guanjia Alley (管家巷), and the Linhan Gate tower are free to access, and the street district can be walked throughout the day. The wall is open at roughly 08:00–21:00, while Prince Zhaoming Tower's upper level and indoor exhibitions keep their own hours. Enter indoor stops according to their individual schedules.

Choose your visit

Main street and Guanjia Alley

The main street is lined with traditional-style façades, local snacks, and evening crowds. Guanjia Alley is a short side route in the middle section, with grey-brick buildings, creative shops, and local handicrafts. If time is tight, stay on the main street; turn into Guanjia Alley for quieter architectural details.

The elevated view at Linhan Gate

Climb the wall at Linhan Gate for a practical photo viewpoint over North Street and the Han River. The upper level of Prince Zhaoming Tower is a separate option. If you are visiting only North Street, focus your time on the main street, Guanjia Alley, and the wall at Linhan Gate; Mrs. Han City Wall (夫人城), Prince Xiang's Mansion, and the southern part of the old city can be planned separately.

An afternoon and evening food walk

The 16:00–18:00 period is a good time to climb the wall, use the afternoon light, and then return to the street for food. Once the lights come on, the main street and the riverfront become busier. Visitors interested in local snacks, a short city walk, or traditional-style street scenes can make North Street a self-contained 1–2-hour stop.

For the broader wall-and-riverside route, see Xiangyang Ancient City.

Build your day

About one hour on North Street

Enter at Linhan Gate and walk south along the main street, passing the Guanjia Alley entrance before finishing with photos below Prince Zhaoming Tower. Leave from the southern end or return to Linhan Gate; if you also want to visit other paid stops in the old city, allow separate time for them.

A 2–3-hour wall-and-street route

First climb the wall at Linhan Gate, walk west to Mrs. Han City Wall, return to Linhan Gate, and descend into North Street for a southbound food walk. Add Guanjia Alley on the way and finish at Prince Zhaoming Tower. If you enter the upper level or indoor exhibitions, decide according to the day's tickets and opening hours; the free street route remains available either way.

Put food after the wall and photos

North Street snacks work well after the wall and photo stops. Brown-sugar pastries, lard pastries, and bottled fresh milk are convenient light options. Popular shops may have queues; if a line is too long, walk through Guanjia Alley or another side lane first, then return to the main street and choose a shop with clearly displayed prices.

Get there

Bus and walking entrances

From central Xiangyang, take bus routes 1, 5, 13, 505, 534, or 546 and get off at Shizijie (Guanjia Alley), then walk about 3–5 minutes. A taxi can use “Linhan Gate” or “Prince Zhaoming Tower” as the destination; choose the northern or southern end according to your route.

Parking

There is underground parking near Linhan Gate, but spaces may be tight during holidays. Park first and continue on foot; the short distances between North Street, Guanjia Alley, and the wall are not suited to repeated car transfers.

Know before you go

Ticket boundaries and spending

North Street, Guanjia Alley, and the Linhan Gate tower are free to access. The interior or upper level of Prince Zhaoming Tower and other old-city stops should be checked separately. Look for clearly displayed prices before buying food, tea, or souvenirs, and include queues at popular shops in your timing.

Crowds and walking

North Street has more atmosphere at night, but this is also the busiest period. Arrive in the afternoon for street photos, then return after your meal to see the lights. Stone paving and wall stairs add to the walking load; wear shoes with good grip, and keep the wall section short enough to turn back comfortably when travelling with children or older adults.

Navigate to the new museum separately

Prince Zhaoming Tower is the old-city landmark at the southern end of North Street. Xiangyang Museum (New Building) at No. 228 Shengli Street is a separate modern museum. If the goal is the six-gallery collection, navigate to the new museum address; sky-lantern releases are not part of a North Street visit.
