Plan at a glance

Who it suits

Jiulianshan focuses on mountain routes, Tianhu Waterfall, Xilian Temple, and a cliff ladder. Compared with a visit centered only on water scenery, it involves more climbing and physical effort. Visitors who enjoy hiking, mountain landscapes, and a quieter setting can visit Jiulianshan on its own or combine it with Baligou in one day.

Tickets and time

Baligou, Jiulianshan, and Huilong Tianjieshan commonly offer a combined pass. The price, validity, and included inter-park transportation vary by ticket type, so check the current ticket page and the entry cut-off time when buying.

Choose your visit

Tianhu Waterfall

Tianhu Waterfall drops between the cliffs, and its flow affects the overall impression during the wet season. It is Jiulianshan’s main water attraction and works best as part of a mountain-top route, rather than treating Jiulianshan only as a transfer point for Baligou.

Xilian Temple and mountain-top views

Xilian Temple stands on a mountain-top terrace with views of the surrounding mountains. If you want to combine mountain scenery, the temple, and the climb in one visit, place Xilian Temple toward the upper part of your ascent.

The 999-step cliff ladder

The cliff ladder has about 999 steps and is one of Jiulianshan’s more demanding sections. Climbing time varies with fitness and visitor numbers. Visitors with average fitness can choose the sightseeing elevator instead; check its opening status and one-way fare before using it.

Build your day

A 2–3-hour Jiulianshan short route

After entering Jiulianshan, take the in-mountain shuttle to the main area. Depending on your fitness, choose the sightseeing elevator or the uphill path, visit Xilian Temple, then descend toward the Tianhu Waterfall viewpoints. Return to the transport stop along the route and note the last shuttle. The in-mountain shuttle and sightseeing elevator may require separate payment and are not necessarily included in the combined pass.

Baligou and Jiulianshan in one day

Visit Baligou in the morning and continue to Jiulianshan in the afternoon. After arriving, take the in-mountain shuttle uphill; if your fitness allows, climb the 999-step ladder, then visit Xilian Temple and Tianhu Waterfall. Include the inter-park bus and last return shuttle in your day plan, and avoid leaving the ladder section too late.

Put the climbing section first

If you plan to climb the ladder, complete the main ascent first, then visit Xilian Temple and the waterfall viewpoints. The sightseeing elevator is an in-mountain transport option; check its opening status, direction of travel, and fare before using it.

Get there

Entrance and driving

Navigate to Baligou Visitor Center. The Jiulianshan entrance is about 600 meters from the Baligou entrance. Park at the visitor center and transfer to the scenic-area bus for Jiulianshan.

By public transportation

From Xinxiang, Huixian, or Zhengzhou, travel first to Baligou Visitor Center, then continue to Jiulianshan. Coordinate both the outward and return journeys with the visitor center’s bus schedule.

Know before you go

Fitness and route choices

The 999-step ladder, in-mountain paths, and the return between the waterfall and other areas involve sustained climbing. Wear shoes suitable for extended walking and stairs. The sightseeing elevator can be used as a lower-effort option; check its opening status and whether it is included in the combined pass.

Combined pass and return journey

When buying tickets and entering the parks, check which entrances, inter-park vehicles, and last shuttles are covered by the three-park pass. Jiulianshan’s main highlights are Tianhu Waterfall, Xilian Temple, and the 999-step cliff ladder. First-time visitors can prioritize these areas.
