Plan at a glance
A mountain-road drive between an eastern entrance and a western exit
Southern Anhui Tibet Line, Ningguo Section is an approximately 120 km self-drive route crossing Ningguo and Jing County. The eastern entrance is in Ningguo, Xuancheng, and the western exit is in Caicun Town, Jing County, Xuancheng. The route passes Chujia Beach, the Huiyun Zen Temple area, Banqiao Village and Taoling Liudao Bay before continuing toward Jing County.
There is no unified admission ticket for the route. Cruises, bamboo rafts, rafting, cafés, food and parking along the way are charged separately, and their opening hours vary. A basic route takes about 4–5 hours, excluding traffic, waiting for parking, photography and unplanned stops; a fuller experience is better suited to two days and one night.
A driver with mountain-road experience
Much of the route consists of winding mountain roads, with narrow sections and repeated sharp bends. Passing and parking are more difficult than on ordinary roads. Self-driving is the most practical option, and an experienced mountain-road driver is recommended; the main sections around Liudao Bay are more demanding than ordinary suburban roads.

Chujia Beach: lakeside scenery and a morning stop
Chujia Beach is a common lakeside stop toward the eastern entrance. You can make a short lakeside visit there and see morning mist and bamboo rafts on the water. Parking, bamboo-raft rides and lakeside rest stops are separate, and opening conditions and visibility change with the weather.
This section suits self-driving visitors who enjoy lake views, photography and a slower pace. If you still have mountain roads to drive, Chujia Beach works better as a stop along the way, so the visit does not need to be long.
Huiyun Zen Temple viewpoint and Taoling Liudao Bay
The Huiyun Zen Temple area offers mountain-road views, while Taoling Liudao Bay has a concentration of continuous S-bends and winding roads. The two stops feel different: the former suits a short viewpoint stop, while the latter demands more from the driver in terms of vehicle control, passing other cars and handling repeated bends.
Liudao Bay is not suitable for drivers without mountain-road experience. Parking at viewpoints is limited, so stay away from bends and road shoulders when taking photos, and do not stop where your vehicle would obstruct traffic.
Banqiao Village and lodging near the western exit
Banqiao Village can serve as an accommodation or rest stop along the route, and there are guesthouses and restaurants near the western exit. On a two-day, one-night trip, you can divide the driving, lakeside stops and village rest between the two days. Book accommodation through established platforms, and choose restaurants with clear public information.
Build your day
East to west: a 4–5-hour basic route
From the eastern entrance, drive via Chujia Beach and continue to Taoling Liudao Bay, then leave from the western exit toward Caicun Town in Jing County. The basic route takes about 4–5 hours, but traffic, parking, weather, photography and unplanned stops can change the actual travel time.
Taoling Liudao Bay has many consecutive bends, and the parking areas and viewpoints have limited capacity. Do not park on bends, narrow roads or shoulders; when you need to stop, choose a safe place that does not obstruct traffic.
Two days and one night: Chujia Beach, Huiyun Zen Temple, Banqiao Village and Liudao Bay
On the first day, travel from the eastern entrance to Chujia Beach, then continue toward the Huiyun Zen Temple area as road and time allow. Stay overnight in Banqiao Village or near the western exit. On the second day, pass through Taoling Liudao Bay and continue to the western exit. Check the accommodation, along-the-way activities and parking arrangements for each stop.
If eastbound traffic is heavy during a holiday, you can consider travelling from west to east instead, but the western entrance, accommodation and return trip still need to be arranged in advance. Whichever direction you choose, decide whether to continue according to the day's weather, traffic and driving conditions.
Get there
Drive in from the eastern or western entrance
Navigate to the eastern or western entrance of the Southern Anhui Tibet Line. There is no unified visitor centre or central car park for the whole route. Before setting out, check your fuel, navigation signal, accommodation location and return plan.
Public transport does not cover the multiple stops and lodging villages along the route. Visitors without a car are better off choosing a single accessible attraction such as Qinglongwan, Moon Bay or Shuimo Tingxi; the complete Southern Anhui Tibet Line is better suited to self-driving.
Mountain driving and temporary parking
Some sections are narrow with sharp bends, so slow down early and watch for oncoming vehicles when passing. Liudao Bay, viewpoints and riverside recreation spots can become congested during holidays. Do not stop for photos on bends, at the roadside, on shoulders or in unauthorised areas, and keep vehicles out of shallow water and river channels.
Know before you go
Activity hours and charges along the route
The route is passable year-round, but rafting and boat activities have different operating hours, with some stopping around 16:00–17:00. Activities, food, cafés and parking are charged separately. Before setting out, confirm which activities are open that day, then decide where to stop.
Holiday traffic and monkeys
Liudao Bay, viewpoints and riverside recreation spots may have long traffic delays during holidays. Leaving early or changing direction cannot guarantee that you will avoid congestion. If you encounter monkeys along the route, do not get out to touch, feed or tease them, and keep your vehicle at a safe distance.
Lodging and equipment
Book accommodation through an established platform where possible, and be cautious with guesthouses asking for private bank transfers. Bring water, a power bank or charging cable, and some cash for mountain driving. Parking and supplies are spread out, so before setting out on the next mountain section, check your fuel, navigation, battery and accommodation location.
