Plan at a glance

Two separate ways to visit

The reserve offers two separate experiences: Zhonghua Milu Park (中华麋鹿园) for close observation and permitted interaction, and Huangha Yelu Dang, Qiming Road and the surrounding roads for a self-drive search for wild milu deer. The two areas are about one hour apart by car, with different entrances, ticket arrangements and ways of visiting.

Adult admission to Zhonghua Milu Park is listed at CNY 50–55, and the sightseeing vehicle costs CNY 15. The park is open roughly 08:00–17:30, with entry recommended by 16:30; the sightseeing vehicle is required to reach the core free-range area, which cannot be reached on foot.

How much time to allow

Allow 2–3 hours for Zhonghua Milu Park alone. To combine close observation inside the park with a wild-area search, plan a full day and arrange a self-drive transfer between the two areas.

Choose your visit

Zhonghua Milu Park: close observation

The sightseeing vehicle takes visitors into the free-range area for close views of the milu deer. There is also a milu museum near the park exit. This option suits families, first-time visitors and anyone who wants to learn about milu conservation.

Feeding and other interaction inside the park must follow the methods permitted on site. The museum adds information about the animal’s features, its return to protected areas and related conservation work.

Huangha Yelu Dang and Qiming Road: wait for a wild sighting

The outer roads around Qiming Road, County Road 202 and the surrounding area do not require a Zhonghua Milu Park ticket. Early morning and late afternoon are better times to look for wild herds. For photography, the mudflats, wind turbines and reeds provide the setting; binoculars or a telephoto lens of 200 mm or longer are more useful than a standard lens.

The free roadside experience does not provide access to the core free-range area in Zhonghua Milu Park. Treat the two options as different routes with different time requirements.

Build your day

2–3 hours: Zhonghua Milu Park

Enter Zhonghua Milu Park, buy the admission and sightseeing-vehicle tickets, and take the vehicle into the free-range area. Complete the observation and permitted interaction according to the on-site arrangement, then return to the visitor area and visit the milu museum before leaving through the park exit.

1 day: park visit plus wild-area search

Start at Zhonghua Milu Park in the morning, take the sightseeing vehicle into the free-range area and visit the milu museum. In the afternoon, drive to Huangha Yelu Dang, Qiming Road or County Road 202 and search slowly along the road before sunset. Finish the day in Dafeng or Dongtai for food and accommodation.

Transfer and return

The drive from Zhonghua Milu Park to the Huangha Yelu Dang area takes about one hour; it is not an internal walking connection. Public transport around the reserve is limited, so arrange a return vehicle in advance when visiting the outer wild area.

Get there

Driving is the main option

For Zhonghua Milu Park, navigate to “Dafeng Milu National Nature Reserve” or “Zhonghua Milu Park” on Milu Avenue in Dafeng District; the park has parking. For Huangha Yelu Dang and Qiming Road, set each place as a separate navigation destination because the reserve name alone can lead to a different entrance.

Food and supplies

Restaurants around the reserve are scarce. Bring enough water and simple food, then plan a proper meal in Dafeng or Dongtai on the return journey.

Know before you go

Safety around wild deer

When you see wild milu deer, stay quiet and keep your distance. Do not honk, chase, shout at or feed them. Inside the park, follow the permitted interaction rules; outside the park, stay on roads and in areas open to visitors.

Sun, insects and camera equipment

Mosquitoes are numerous in summer, so bring repellent, a hat and sun protection. Early morning or 16:00–18:00 is better for wild-area observation; a telephoto lens or binoculars is more useful than close-range camera equipment.
