Plan at a glance
Location, tickets and opening hours
Dongtai Huanghai Forest Park is at 8 Hualin Road in Dongtai’s Coastal Economic Development Zone. The north gate has the main visitor centre, parking and several transport facilities. The park covers about 16,000 mu, with sights spread across the grounds, so visitors need the sightseeing vehicle, small train or electric cart.
Adult admission is listed at CNY 50. Students and visitors aged 60 and over receive half-price admission with valid identification, and children under 1.4 m enter free. Regular hours are 08:30–17:30, with entry stopping at 16:30; from November 1 to February 28, winter hours are 08:30–17:00.
How much time to allow
Allow 2–3 hours for a route using the sightseeing vehicle or small train with walking. For a slower visit using an electric cart to cover Forest Eye, the Canopy Walk, the Wetland Corridor and the family areas, plan 4–6 hours.

Forest Eye and the Canopy Walk
Forest Eye is about 41 metres high and has an elevator overlooking the Chinese fir forest. The 800-metre Canopy Walk runs through the treetops and is the most practical main route for a first visit. Add Misty Forest and the Big Frame after the walkway for forest-light and environmental portraits.
Small train, wetlands and family areas
The forest small train ride takes about 20 minutes and suits families or visitors who want to reduce long walks. The Wetland Corridor, Insect Island and Wooden Education Forest can form a slower half-day route; a standard bicycle is not practical for covering the whole park.
Photographers can visit Forest Eye in the morning, use the Canopy Walk in the afternoon and go to the Wetland Corridor near sunset for reflections in the water. Wind and rain can affect Forest Eye, the small train and the artificial mist programme.
Build your day
2–3 hours: sightseeing vehicle and walking
Enter through the north gate and take the sightseeing vehicle to Forest Eye. Walk to the Canopy Walk, continue to Misty Forest and the Big Frame, then return to the north gate on foot or by vehicle. The sightseeing vehicle costs about CNY 20 per person.
2–3 hours: small train and walking
Walk from the north gate to the small-train station and ride for about 20 minutes. Get off at a core stop, walk through Forest Eye and the Canopy Walk, then return to the north gate. The small train costs about CNY 40 per person.
4–6 hours: slow electric-cart route
Rent a four-person shared electric cart at the north gate for about CNY 100 per hour. Visit Forest Eye, the Canopy Walk, the Wetland Corridor, Insect Island and Wooden Education Forest in that order. Stop at Senhuo Market for supplies, or bring food for a short lawn break, then return the cart at the north gate.
Get there
Direct shuttle from Dongtai Station
Take the park shuttle from the entrance area on the second floor of Dongtai Railway Station. Reference departures from Dongtai Station to the park are 09:40, 12:30, 14:30 and 16:10; reference returns from the park are 08:40, 11:40, 14:00 and 16:30. The ride takes about one hour and costs around CNY 15–20; confirm the day’s timetable and return plan before setting out.
Driving and parking
Navigate to “Dongtai Huanghai Forest Park”; the north gate has a large free car park. Try to drive toward the parking area closest to the gate, ticket office and Chinese fir forest, rather than getting out at a distant lot and walking nearly 1 km.
Know before you go
Weather, queues and temporary pauses
Strong winds, heavy rain and thunderstorms can close the park temporarily. Forest Eye and the small train may also stop operating. On holidays, the queue for Forest Eye can approach 40 minutes, so visiting it soon after opening can save time.
Food, insects and walking
Food choices inside the park are limited; Dicos, Dongtai fish soup noodles and small shops are the main supply points, so bring food for a longer route. Mosquitoes are common in the forest in summer and at night. Walking alone cannot cover the 16,000-mu park, so use the internal transport that matches your route.
