Free permanent exhibitions and hours

Yancheng Museum is at 126 Jianjun West Road in Tinghu District, Yancheng. The permanent exhibitions are free and do not require a reservation; current special exhibitions cost extra. Regular hours are 09:00–17:30 every day. During summer and public holidays, the museum may stay open until 21:00 Tuesday–Sunday, with entry stopping at 20:30; Monday still closes at 17:30.

Allow about one hour for the quick route or 2–2.5 hours for a full visit. The museum is divided into east, south, west and north sections, so first-time visitors should pick up a floor or visitor map after entering.

Current special exhibition

“Under the Sun: Ancient Egyptian Civilization” runs until October 19, 2026 and requires a separate ticket. After that date, check the museum’s current exhibition programme before planning a visit around it.

Choose your visit

Yancheng history and folk culture

The “Yancheng Under Heaven” History Hall is a good first introduction to the city. “Water of Life: Yancheng Intangible Folk Culture” focuses more on local life and traditional crafts. The entrance hall, “Harmony Between Heaven and Humanity” preface hall and “Salt by the Sea” thematic hall add more city and salt-history context.

Tower and special exhibition

The main tower overlooks the surrounding buildings, and the mirror at the stair corner works well for photographs of the architecture and sky. Visitors interested in ancient civilizations can buy a separate ticket for “Under the Sun: Ancient Egyptian Civilization” before October 19, 2026; after that date, follow the museum’s current exhibition programme.

Families can use the museum’s multimedia displays. History-focused visitors can follow the full reading route, while Hanfu and vintage-style photographers can leave the tower and architectural spaces until after the main galleries.

Build your day

About 1 hour: city-history quick route

Start in the entrance hall, go up the tower for the view, then visit the “Yancheng Under Heaven” History Hall and “Water of Life: Yancheng Intangible Folk Culture” before leaving through the souvenir shop. This route suits a short city stop.

2–2.5 hours: permanent-exhibition highlights

From the entrance hall, enter the “Harmony Between Heaven and Humanity” preface hall, then visit the “Salt by the Sea” thematic hall, “Yancheng Under Heaven” History Hall and “Water of Life: Yancheng Intangible Folk Culture” in order. The east, south, west and north layout can be easier to follow with the visitor map, reducing backtracking.

Special-exhibition visit

If you are visiting “Under the Sun: Ancient Egyptian Civilization”, confirm the day’s special-exhibition ticketing and hours, then place it before or after the permanent galleries. The special-exhibition ticket and free entry to the permanent exhibitions are separate.

Get there

Navigation and parking

Navigate to Yancheng Museum at 126 Jianjun West Road. The museum has a free ground-level car park, and Zhulin Grand Hotel is directly opposite for lunch after the visit.

City connections

China Sea Salt Museum and Yanzhen Water Street are also in central Yancheng and can be added as separate city-culture stops. Use city transport between the three locations; they are not one venue or a shared-ticket route.

Know before you go

Monday, extended hours and exhibition date

The normal Monday closing time remains 17:30, while summer and holiday extensions mainly apply Tuesday–Sunday. “Under the Sun: Ancient Egyptian Civilization” runs until October 19, 2026; after that date, do not rely on this exhibition listing.

Layout and food

The east, south, west and north sections can be confusing on a first visit, so pick up the visitor map at the entrance. The museum has a drinks and coffee shop, while Zhulin Grand Hotel opposite serves Yancheng snacks such as fish soup noodles and shrimp-bran wontons. Parking and food services follow the arrangements for the day.
