Plan at a glance

An all-day open street area

Yanzhen Water Street is at 3 Kaifang Avenue in Tinghu District, Yancheng. The large archway on the east side is the main entrance; use “Water Street Cultural Square” as the navigation destination. The street area is open all day, free to enter and does not require a reservation. Boat rides and other internal experiences cost extra.

Allow about one hour for a quick walk or two hours for the evening route. The 19:00–21:30 period usually offers the fullest combination of lanterns, waterfront corridors and reflections. Some areas may be under maintenance during the day, so the main experience is better placed in the late afternoon and evening.

Who it suits

Yanzhen Water Street suits a relaxed city walk, waterside architecture photography, local snacks and an easy evening visit. The main sights are Shuiyun Pavilion, the 600-metre waterfront corridor, stone bridges, the “Yancheng” character wall and Piaozhou Theatre. Huai opera and other local performances are scheduled irregularly.

Choose your visit

Daytime streets and photo spots

Enter through the east archway and follow the main path to Shuiyun Pavilion, then continue to the “Yancheng” character wall behind it and the shops on the west side. Daytime is quieter for seeing the white walls, dark roofs, bridges and corridors. The stone bridge in front of Shuiyun Pavilion gives a wide view of the pavilion and lantern corridor.

Late afternoon and night scenery

Arrive around 16:00 for a first walk through the area. Around 18:00, find a place by the water for the lanterns to come on, then follow the waterfront corridor and bridges for the evening route. A boat ride at dusk shows both the fading daylight and the lit water, but it costs extra.

Build your day

About 1 hour: main-street route

Enter through the Water Street Cultural Square archway and follow the main path to Shuiyun Pavilion, then continue to the “Yancheng” character wall and the shops on the west side. If you only have a short stop, return to the archway and leave the side lanes for another visit.

About 2 hours: evening route

Arrive around 16:00 for the daytime streets and photo spots. Around 18:00, wait by the water for the lanterns, then follow the 600-metre waterfront corridor, stone bridges and Shuiyun Pavilion. Between 19:00 and 21:30, choose between snacks, a boat ride and a stop at the theatre according to the crowd and the day’s programme.

Theatre and boat ride

Piaozhou Theatre sometimes hosts Huai opera and other local performances, but show times are not fixed. Boat rides are separate paid experiences; ask about the day’s route and price before buying a ticket.

Get there

Bus and taxi

Take bus 20, B3 or H21 and get off at Water Street or Water Street North. A taxi from Yancheng Railway Station takes about 15 minutes. After an evening visit, a taxi or bus is more practical on holidays.

Parking

Parking around the street is tight on holidays, so public transport or a taxi avoids the search for a space. If driving, navigate to Water Street Cultural Square and follow the parking signs before walking into the street area.

Know before you go

Open street and nearby museum

The street is open all day, but the China Sea Salt Museum across the road is not. The museum normally closes on Mondays, so avoid scheduling “museum first, night street second” on a Monday. Yanzhen Water Street itself needs no reservation; boat rides and other experiences are charged separately.

Snacks and evening walking

Try Dongtai fish soup noodles, Yancheng egg pancakes or lotus-root starch dumplings from the street stalls. For a full meal, walk or take a taxi to Zhulin Grand Hotel or a city restaurant. At night, watch the steps, bridges and crowds near the water, and keep the passage clear when taking photos.
