How to Visit
1

Come for the flower season if possible

Asilisi Jiucaiping is most worth visiting for its highland wild chive flower fields. Late August to mid-September is the best window for a dedicated trip. The ticket is CNY 45, round-trip sightseeing bus is CNY 50, and round-trip cableway is CNY 80. Common opening hours are 08:30-18:00.

Tip:Outside flower season, you can still see highland meadows and wind turbines, but lower your expectations for the purple flower fields.
2

Use the East Gate for a first visit

Most visitors should enter from the East Gate, then take the sightseeing bus or cableway up and follow the plank path through the flower fields and viewpoints. The route is clearer and easier to manage.

Tip:The West Gate hiking route is quieter, but it is rougher and more physically demanding. Do not choose it blindly on a first visit.
3

Dress for the summit, not the base

Jiucaiping is high in elevation, and the summit is very windy. Even in late summer or early autumn, bring a windproof jacket. When the sun is out, UV exposure is strong, so prepare a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Tip:The easiest mistake here is not the route, but underestimating the wind, cold, and sun.
4

Do not overpack distant stops into one day

Jiucaiping and Asilisi Grassland are about 40 km apart. Visiting both in one day is possible, but it works best by self-driving or hiring a car. Go to Jiucaiping first, then drive to the grassland for easier open-road scenery.

Tip:Public transport connections are weak, so do not rely on last-minute taxis between the two areas.
Highlights
  • Late August to mid-September wild chive flowers are the main draw.
  • Highland meadows, wind turbines, and distant mountains create wide open views.
  • Cableway and sightseeing bus options reduce the effort of getting uphill.
  • The plank path is clear and suitable for first-time visitors.
  • Paired with Asilisi Grassland, it gives two different highland landscapes in one trip.
Insider Tips

Flower-season weekends are crowded, so arrive early.

The summit is windy; do not rely on light clothing or thin dresses.

Wear non-slip shoes, as the plank path and mountain road can be slippery after rain.

With older visitors or children, use the cableway or sightseeing bus instead of saving on transport.

Book lodging early during flower season; Hezhang County or nearby hotels are more reliable than last-minute searching.
