Plan at a glance

What you will see

Tianmu Lake Nanshan Bamboo Sea is at 10 Xiachangyuan, Lijiayuan Village, Daibu Town, Liyang, Changzhou. It suits visitors interested in natural scenery, bamboo forests, photography and family trips. The route forms a Y shape, and the two branches usually require a choice; walking every section back and forth is not realistic in a short visit.

A quick route takes about 2–3 hours; a highlights route takes about 3–4 hours. Adult tickets reference CNY 90 and preferential tickets CNY 45. The train, sightseeing bus, panda rail and summit cableway each cost extra, and transport add-ons can become a significant part of the budget.

Decide on mobility and transport budget

The main sights include Jinghu Lake, the Ten-Thousand-Mu Bamboo Sea, Wuyue First Peak, Jiming Village, the Panda House and Little Bird Paradise. An easier route uses the train and cableway, while the highlights route involves more walking and slopes. Families with older adults, children, a stroller or large luggage should prioritize the easier route.

The car park is followed by about a 15-minute walk through an old street to the gate, and the entrance has 99 steps. The final section after parking is part of the practical effort of reaching the attraction.

Choose your visit

Bamboo sea, Jinghu Lake and viewpoints

Jinghu Lake is good for bamboo reflections and water photos, while the Ten-Thousand-Mu Bamboo Sea is the main natural scenery section. Wuyue First Peak offers a high view over the bamboo and mountain slopes, and the red rail crossing the bamboo makes a strong photography subject. Allow for cableway queues and steps before reaching the summit.

Jiming Village, the Panda House and Little Bird Paradise suit families and visitors interested in animals and nature observation. The panda branch changes the pace of the route, so visitors who want to see the pandas should check the panda rail queue and operating status early in the visit.

Easier visit and walking route

For visitors with average mobility or those who do not want continuous climbing, take the train to Shouxing Square, the cableway to the summit and return on the same route. Walkers can go from the gate to Shouxing Square, take the panda rail to Jiming Village, return to Shouxing Square, then take the cableway up and walk down.

The two branches cannot both be completed quickly. Strollers, wheelchairs and luggage also make the entrance steps and mountain paths more difficult; if needed, remove the panda or summit section and make Jinghu Lake and the bamboo sea the main targets.

Build your day

About 2–3 hours: quick route

Enter the scenic area, take the small train to Shouxing Square, transfer to the cableway for Wuyue First Peak and return by the same route. This route skips the Panda House and focuses on the bamboo sea, summit views and limited walking, making it suitable for limited time or groups with average mobility.

The train and cableway are charged separately. When buying, confirm one-way, return and package contents. The return journey must also include the cableway queue, train schedule and the walk from Shouxing Square back to the entrance.

About 3–4 hours: highlights route

Walk about 30 minutes from the gate to Shouxing Square through the bamboo and mountain paths, then take the panda rail to Jiming Village. Return to Shouxing Square, take the cableway to the summit, and walk down past Little Bird Paradise and Jinghu Lake before returning to the exit.

This route combines pandas, bamboo and viewpoints but demands more from the legs and the schedule. The panda rail queue may reach about 1.5 hours on holidays; if it becomes too long, choose either Jiming Village or the summit rather than missing the return journey.

Combining with Yushui Hot Spring

Yushui Hot Spring is at the foot of Nanshan Bamboo Sea, about a 5–10 minute walk away. To visit both on one day, enter the bamboo sea in the morning and bathe after coming down in the afternoon; the hot spring opens later than the bamboo sea.

Get there

Liyang Station and driving

From Liyang Station, take the South tourist line or Bus 73, or take a taxi. The reference drive is about 30–40 minutes and CNY 50–60. Return public transport is infrequent, especially for visitors finishing late or continuing to the hot spring.

Drivers should navigate to “Nanshan Bamboo Sea Car Park.” Parking references CNY 15 per day, with charging points in Zone E. The walk from the car park to the scenic-area gate passes through the old street and takes about 15 minutes; include it in arrival time when travelling with older adults, children or luggage.

Entrance, steps and internal transport

The entrance has 99 steps. Inside, movement relies on walking, the small train, sightseeing bus, panda rail and cableway. Reference prices are CNY 20 for a one-way train ride, about CNY 30 for a one-way sightseeing bus, about CNY 90 return for the panda rail and about CNY 90 return for the summit cableway. Packages and individual combinations follow the products sold that day.

The route is Y-shaped, so look carefully at the connections between the entrance, Shouxing Square, Jiming Village and the summit. Strollers, wheelchairs and large luggage are more difficult on steps, the old street and mountain paths; travelling light is more practical.

Know before you go

Tickets and opening hours

Adult tickets reference CNY 90 and preferential tickets CNY 45; internal transport costs extra. During the July–August peak season, reference hours are 08:30–17:00 on weekdays and about 08:30–17:30 on weekends, with ticket checks stopping about one hour before closing. Check the date for other seasons.

Tickets can be bought in advance through channels such as “Youshi Liyang,” where package and transport combinations can also be viewed. When buying the main ticket, include the train, panda rail and cableway in the calculation if you plan to use them.

Queues, equipment and food

The panda rail may have long queues on holidays, so visitors who want to see the pandas should arrive early and check the rail service. Mountain paths, steps and damp bamboo-forest sections call for comfortable, non-slip shoes.

Food inside is relatively expensive, so bring water and simple snacks. Mosquitoes are common in the bamboo forest and mountain paths in summer; carry repellent and sun protection.

Nearby plans

Yushui Hot Spring is about a 5–10 minute walk away and works well after the bamboo sea. Tianmu Lake Landscape Park is about 20 km away; Liyang Museum and Liyang No. 1 Highway are other options for a different time. These attractions operate separately, with separate entrances and tickets.
