How to Visit
1

Treat Yangming Temple as a quiet city culture stop

Yangming Temple is free to visit. Use 09:00-18:00 as the opening window, with closure on Mondays. It works best as a slow 1-2 hour visit covering Wang Yangming Shrine, Yin Daozhen Shrine, Fufeng Temple, and the stele corridor.

Tip:If you only want a quick introduction to Wang Yangming, Yangming Temple in the city saves more time than going to Xiuwen.
2

Take Metro Line 2 to Yangming Temple Station

Exit from Yangming Temple Station on Metro Line 2 and walk to the site. Buses are also convenient, but parking nearby is limited, so driving is not recommended.

Tip:Yangming Temple can be paired with Wenchang Pavilion, Dongshan Temple, or old-city lanes for a half-day route.
3

Follow Wang Yangming Shrine, Yin Daozhen Shrine, and Fufeng Temple

Start with Wang Yangming Shrine, then see Yin Daozhen Shrine and Fufeng Temple, and finish slowly around the stele corridor, courtyards, and tea area. This order makes the people, history, and space easier to understand.

Tip:The site is small, but the information density is higher than a simple photo stop, so slow down.
4

Go in the afternoon for softer light and tea

Afternoon light is softer on the red walls, bamboo shadows, and old buildings. If you want to sit down for tea, the Fufeng Temple area is better for slowing the pace.

Tip:Do not treat Yangming Temple only as a photo spot. It is easier to understand with Wang Yangming and Yin Daozhen's background.
Highlights
  • Yangming Temple is the easiest city-center entry point for understanding Wang Yangming's influence in Guizhou.
  • Yin Daozhen Shrine adds background on early education and cultural transmission in Guizhou.
  • Fufeng Temple, tea spaces, and calligraphy areas make the site more stayable than a simple memorial building.
  • The stele corridor and courtyards reward slow detail-watching.
  • It is close to Wenchang Pavilion and Dongshan Temple, making it useful for an old-city culture route.
Insider Tips

Do not plan an interior visit on Mondays.

If you want portrait or hanfu photos, ask the site management about rules in advance.

Keep your voice and photography low-key in the quiet courtyard spaces.

If you also visit China Yangming Cultural Park that day, use Yangming Temple as the city-side supplement rather than repeating the same information.

Dongshan Temple involves uphill walking, so do not make the second half of the route too tiring if your energy is limited.
