Park and pagoda opening boundaries
Guifeng Pagoda stands inside Guifeng Park on Nandi Road in Yuancheng District, with the main park gate as the usual entrance. The outdoor park is generally open throughout the day, while the pagoda interior and climbing access usually follow a 09:00–17:00 schedule; conservation or maintenance may close the climb, so check the day’s on-site arrangement.
Park entry is free, and the climbing ticket is listed at about CNY 5, but climbing is not a stable part of the visit. Allow 30–60 minutes for the pagoda exterior and park; add more time if you also want the riverside path and Guifeng Temple.

The Southern Song brick pagoda
Guifeng Pagoda dates from 1132 and is an early Southern Song brick pagoda. It has seven visible storeys and is traditionally described as having fourteen internal levels, with brick walls up to about 3.3 metres thick; visitors interested in Chinese architecture, local history and pagoda photography can focus on the proportions, brickwork and setting.
Tower reflections and the riverside
The park and lakeside offer several views of the pagoda, and the light after sunrise or before sunset is better for photographing the brick walls and reflections. The view from the top is available only when climbing is open, so do not present climbing as a guaranteed part of the visit.
Who it suits
Guifeng Pagoda suits history travellers, traditional-style photography, family learning visits and anyone looking for a short city walk. The main experience is the pagoda exterior, park and riverside setting, making it easy to combine with Heyuan Museum, Heyuan Dinosaur Museum or Taiping Ancient Street.
Build your day
A 30–60 minute pagoda visit
Enter through Guifeng Park, view the pagoda from its base, then continue to the square in front and the lakeside for different angles. If climbing is open, buy the ticket on site and follow the entry arrangements; if it is closed, the park and exterior views still cover the main visit.
Guifeng Pagoda and the two museums
Visit Guifeng Pagoda first, then walk to Heyuan Dinosaur Museum and continue to Heyuan Museum; this combination takes about 3.5–4 hours and suits a first city heritage day. Heyuan Museum and Heyuan Dinosaur Museum have their own tickets or reservation rules, and the pagoda’s climbing access must be checked separately.
Park, temple and riverside walk
Visitors with more time can see the pagoda, continue to Guifeng Temple and walk along the riverside. The light is usually softer in the late afternoon, but sunset and night views depend on the weather; an all-day park opening does not mean that the pagoda interior stays open later.
Get there
City transport
A taxi from Heyuan East Railway Station to Guifeng Park takes about 20–30 minutes. City buses stop near the Dinosaur Museum or Yuancheng Primary School, and a shared e-bike is also convenient; walking from Heyuan Museum or Heyuan Dinosaur Museum is easy.
Driving and parking
There is a free open-air parking area near the park entrance. It is usually easier than old-city parking, although late weekend afternoons can be busy; Heyuan Museum and Heyuan Dinosaur Museum also have nearby parking, so choose one place and walk between the sites.
Know before you go
Climbing and opening hours
Conservation and maintenance may close the climb, so confirm that the access is open before buying a climbing ticket. Keep the all-day outdoor park access separate from the pagoda’s usual 09:00–17:00 interior schedule; Monday maintenance or holiday arrangements may differ.
Sun, supplies and photography
The brick paving and open square are very sunny at midday, while after 16:00 is usually more comfortable for photographs and a walk. There are few shops beneath the pagoda, so bring drinking water; the park has shaded pavilions and greenery, but insects can still be present in summer.
Nearby options include Heyuan Museum, Heyuan Dinosaur Museum and Taiping Ancient Street. The city sights are close enough for walking or cycling, but if you are continuing to Wanlv Lake or another out-of-town attraction, arrange the vehicle and timing again.
