Location and tickets
Longchuan Huoshan Scenic Area is in Tianxin Town, Longchuan County, with Lingnan Gate and South Gate as the usual entrances. Driving from Guangzhou or Shenzhen takes about 3–3.5 hours; the area is remote, public transport is limited and self-driving or a pre-arranged chartered car is the practical choice.
The on-site single-entry ticket costs about CNY 70, while online prices may range from about CNY 40–65. A package with admission, the glass walkway and the flying carpet costs about CNY 120–125. Children under 1.2 metres enter free, and students and older visitors may receive discounts with the relevant ID; visitors over 65 enter free.
The usual hours are 08:00–17:30, with entry possibly stopping between 16:00 and 17:00. Start early enough for the climb; advance reservations are not usually required, but check which ticket and project combination you are buying.

Danxia peaks and Ship’s Prow Rock
Ship’s Prow Rock is about 550 metres above sea level and is the main high viewpoint for the Danxia peaks. The red rock, ridges and open views suit nature photographers and hikers, but reaching the viewpoint requires continuous climbing and is not a roadside photo stop.
One-Line-Sky and the cliff walkways
One-Line-Sky is a narrow Danxia rock passage, while the cliff walkways follow the mountain wall and offer close views of the red cliffs. The glass walkway is about 200 metres and costs extra; visitors uncomfortable with heights can use the ordinary mountain paths instead.
Who it suits
Huoshan suits nature lovers, hikers, photography visitors and families who choose the less strenuous route. The flying carpet reduces part of the climb but does not remove the overall mountain effort, so shoes, water and return timing matter more than simply buying the attraction tickets.
Build your day
A roughly 3-hour easier route
Enter from the South Gate and, if included in your ticket, take the flying carpet to the upper section before visiting Lingshan Temple, the glass walkway and Ship’s Prow Rock. Confirm whether the flying carpet and glass walkway are included; return through the official route and do not search for an unofficial shortcut.
A 4–5 hour Danxia route
Enter from Lingnan Gate and follow the open route through One-Line-Sky, Tianmen, Ship’s Prow Rock, the Skywalk, Lovers’ Ridge and Denggao Ridge before returning through the official South Gate exit. The steps are steep and gritty, and the full route takes about 4–5 hours, so do not start too late.
A 5–6 hour full hike
The full walking option passes features such as Yulin Cave and Longyu Rock before reaching the main summit area and descending along the mountain road. The steps are uneven, so this option suits experienced outdoor visitors; if weather worsens, energy drops or a section is restricted, shorten the visit according to the on-site instructions.
Get there
Driving and parking
Drive to “Longchuan Huoshan Scenic Area”; the trip from Guangzhou or Shenzhen takes about 3–3.5 hours. Parking costs about CNY 10 per visit, and some cars can drive closer to the ticket checkpoint; the South Gate also has a large parking area, subject to the day’s access arrangements.
High-speed rail and taxis
From Longchuan West Railway Station, a taxi to the scenic area takes about 40–50 minutes; transferring from Heyuan East Railway Station takes about one hour. Taxis are difficult to find around the scenic area, so arrange the return vehicle before setting out.
Know before you go
Project tickets and equipment
The entrance, flying carpet and glass walkway are usually priced separately, so confirm the price and what each ticket covers. Danxia steps contain loose gravel and can be slippery; wear non-slip shoes and bring enough water and simple food because supplies near the top are limited.
The glass walkway is about 200 metres, and visitors with a strong fear of heights can skip it. High-altitude projects require the safety equipment specified on site; phone straps, lockers and similar services may cost extra, so check before buying.
Time, weather and descent
Arrive early and begin the main climb well before the afternoon so that you are back at the exit before dark. Rain makes the steps much more slippery; in winter or in poor light, do not extend the hike just to finish the deep route, and always follow the open entrances and descent signs.
Huoshan tofu pudding, Hakka food and Longchuan raw fish are available around the mountain and in Longchuan County. Tuocheng Ancient Town or the Longchuan Yangming Museum can be visited at another time, but avoid adding too many distant stops after a long mountain day.
