Location, entrances and opening pattern
Fanhe Ancient Village is in Renshan Town, Huidong County. Fanhe Cultural Square and the City God Ancestor Temple are the most useful entrances because they are close to the central Luogang Walled Compound. The village is free, needs no reservation and is open throughout the year; arrive before 9:00 to avoid crowds and catch the morning market.
Village lanes are compact, and a full walk takes one to two hours. Visitors who do not want to walk can rent an e-bike. It takes about 30 minutes to drive from Huidong County town and around 1.5–2.5 hours from Guangzhou, Shenzhen or Dongguan.

Walled-compound and stage route
Cultural Square → Luogang Walled Compound → City God Temple stage → Cape Lighthouse. Luogang is the core stop: the square compound is about 99 metres by 99 metres, with stone lanes and a regular internal layout.
Deeper heritage route
Luogang Walled Compound → Jitang Compound → Changxing Compound → three historic opera stages → Catholic church → Chen Clan Ancestral Hall → Zhushan viewpoint → fishing harbour. Divide time between the compounds, temples, church and harbour rather than stopping only briefly at Luogang.
Morning-market and harbour route
Arrive near Cultural Square for morning food → Luogang and the lanes → Zhushan viewpoint → fishing harbour. Market stalls close early, so visitors hoping for handmade noodle soup or bowl cakes should arrive before 9:00.
Get there
Driving
Navigate to Fanhe Cultural Square or the City God Ancestor Temple, rather than simply “Fanhe Ancient Village”, which can lead away from the core compound area. The village has public parking and homestay parking, but lanes are narrow and weekend visitors should arrive early.
High-speed rail and local transport
From Huidong Station, a taxi takes about 20 minutes. You can also take the Xiayong H1 coastal loop bus to Renshan Town, then transfer to a motorcycle or three-wheeler for around CNY 10–15. Walking is the main way to move around the village.
Know before you go
Residential-area etiquette and sun
Some walled compounds remain private homes, so do not enter interiors without permission or make excessive noise. The village has limited shade and some mosquito-prone lanes, so bring sunscreen, a hat and insect repellent.
Timing and nearby routes
Light is softer before 9:00 or after 16:00, and weekdays are quieter. Fanhe can be combined with Haozhaolou Wetland Park, Heipaijiao, Xunliao Bay or Shuangyue Bay for a wider coast-and-village route.
