Location, tickets and opening hours

Sea Turtle Bay is in the Shuangyue Bay area of Gangkou Town and is a sea turtle nature reserve. The main gate and visitor centre are the only practical entry point. P6 Parking Lot is closest to the entrance and costs around CNY 5 per visit.

Adult entry costs CNY 30; students and visitors aged 60 receive half-price entry, while children under 1.2 metres and visitors aged 70 or above enter free. The site is generally open from 8:30 to 17:30, with last entry at 16:30. The return sightseeing shuttle costs CNY 5 per person.

Choose your visit

1.5–2 hours: easy route

P6 Parking Lot → Visitor Centre → shuttle to the sea turtle rehabilitation centre → Hundred Turtle Garden → boardwalk to Sea View Pavilion → return. This suits families, older visitors and anyone avoiding continuous uphill walking.

2–3 hours: classic walking route

P6 Parking Lot → Visitor Centre → Spirit Turtle Square → Sea View Pavilion → lookout → Huixian Bridge boardwalk → sea turtle rehabilitation centre → Hundred Turtle Garden → return by shuttle. Walk downhill on the outward route for sea views, then use the shuttle to avoid the uphill return.

Two-stop weekend route

Sea Turtle Bay → Shuangyue Bay Viewing Platform → Lovers’ Causeway at sunset. Allow around two hours for Sea Turtle Bay and one hour for the platform.

Build your day

Main boardwalk route

Visitor Centre → Spirit Turtle Square → Sea View Pavilion → lookout → Huixian Bridge → sea turtle rehabilitation centre → Hundred Turtle Garden. Huixian Bridge and the roughly 600-metre coastal boardwalk are the key close-to-sea viewpoints; the rehabilitation centre works well in the latter part of the visit.

Family learning route

Visitor Centre → shuttle → sea turtle rehabilitation centre → Hundred Turtle Garden → Sea View Pavilion. See the sea turtles and land tortoises first, then finish with a shorter boardwalk section.

Late-afternoon connection

Finish Sea Turtle Bay, then continue to Shuangyue Bay Viewing Platform and Lovers’ Causeway. Light is softer on the boardwalk after 16:00, but enter before the final entry cutoff.

Get there

High-speed rail and e-bikes

From Huidong Station or Huidongnan Station, taxis take about 40 minutes and cost around CNY 80–100. E-bike rental in town costs about CNY 50–80 per day and helps avoid congestion on the coastal roads.

Driving

Use P6 first; it may close to vehicles after 10:00 on holidays. P7/P8 are farther away, involve a steep approach and cost more, so they are not the best choice for families.

Know before you go

Use the shuttle in the right direction

Do not take the shuttle immediately on arrival, as it goes directly to the final turtle-centre stop and makes returning to the boardwalk an uphill walk. Walk downhill on the way out, then take the CNY 5 shuttle back.

Weather, footwear and supplies

Food options inside are limited, so bring around two litres of water, snacks, sunscreen, a hat and insect repellent. Wear flat, non-slip shoes. Clear weather gives better sea colour and boardwalk views; overcast conditions reduce the visual effect.
