Plan at a glance
Enter through the official National Gate entrance
The National Gate Scenic Area (满洲里国门景区) is about 9–10 km west of central Manzhouli. Navigate to “满洲里国门景区” (Manzhouli National Gate Scenic Area). Visits start at the ticket entrance; admission, sightseeing bus, and Beijiang Mingzhu Observation Tower (北疆明珠观光塔) may be sold in different combinations. Do not use an after-hours route through the mutual-trade area or treat an outer photo spot as a free entrance.
Allow 1–3 hours
A shorter stop can cover the plaza and the National Gate itself. Allow about 1–3 hours if you add the exhibition halls and Beijiang Mingzhu Observation Tower; queues affect the total. Different pages list different opening and ticket-sales times, so confirm that day’s ticket cutoff, last entry, and tower hours before setting out.

Choose your visit
The fifth-generation National Gate and Boundary Marker 41
The fifth-generation National Gate is the main feature, with a railway passing underneath. In the distance, you can see the border area near Zabaykalsk on the Russian side. Find Boundary Marker 41 in the National Gate plaza for a photo, staying within the visitor area on the Chinese side marked by the boundary marker and barriers; do not cross the line or enter railway property.
Historical exhibitions and themed plazas
The scenic area also includes the former site of the Red Secret Transport Route, the Exhibition Hall of the Sixth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Manzhouli Red Exhibition Hall, Peace Gate Plaza, Aircraft Plaza, and Locomotive Plaza. To learn about the port’s history, combine an exhibition hall with the plazas. If time is limited, see the National Gate and boundary marker first, then choose one exhibition hall.
Optional climb to Beijiang Mingzhu Observation Tower (北疆明珠观光塔)
The observation tower is within the National Gate Scenic Area. Its indoor and outdoor viewing levels look over Manzhouli and toward the Russian town, making it a good clear-weather viewpoint. The tower may require a separate ticket or may be included in a current bundle. If you want to go up, confirm the admission area, open viewing levels, and elevator status when buying tickets.
Build your day
National Gate walking route, about 1 hour
Enter through the official gate and follow visitor signs to the National Gate plaza for the fifth-generation gate and Boundary Marker 41. Then choose the Red Exhibition Hall or the locomotive and aircraft plazas before following exit signs out. Check the park map and closing notice on arrival; walking distances between plazas are shown in the on-site guide.
National Gate and observation tower, about 2–3 hours
First ask at the ticket office whether a National Gate and tower bundle is available that day. Visit the National Gate, boundary marker, and exhibition hall, then go up the tower for views over Manzhouli and the Russian town. If weather or elevator service prevents access to the viewing level, visit an open exhibition hall and leave. The Matryoshka Scenic Area needs separate transport and ticket arrangements; it is not automatically included on the same ticket.
Get there
Bus 6 to National Gate Stop
Manzhouli government visitor routes list Bus 6 to National Gate Stop, but intervals and the last return service can change. Check the day’s timetable before leaving, especially the time between last entry at the attraction and the final bus. If there is no suitable return service, arrange a taxi or hired car in advance.
Taxi or self-drive
A taxi from the city center takes about 20–30 minutes. If driving, navigate to the official National Gate entrance and follow on-site signs for parking and fees. Parking may be tight in peak season; leave the vehicle only in designated areas.
Know before you go
Ticket times and identification
The current Ctrip page lists hours of 09:00–17:30, ticket sales ending at 16:00, and last entry at 17:00, but other pages show different times. Confirm the day’s notice and price before setting out. Travelers with a foreign passport should check whether the selected ticket supports passport-based real-name booking and which document is needed at on-site validation. An attraction ticket does not grant permission to cross the border.
Check elevators and access before going up
Elevator service and access to viewing levels at the National Gate building and observation tower can change. If your group includes older adults, children, or someone with limited mobility, ask whether stairs are required, how many steps there are, and whether an accessible route is available before deciding to go up. If facilities are closed, you can stay at the ground-level plaza and open exhibition halls.
Do not bypass ticket checks or border controls
Enter only through the ticket gate and visit during opening hours; do not use the outer mutual-trade-area route when the attraction is unattended. Do not cross barriers, approach the railway, or photograph restricted areas. Watch trains and the National Gate only from open visitor viewpoints.
