Plan at a glance

Two ways to visit

If train service and tickets are confirmed, board at 桦南站 (Huanan Station) beside 桦南森工大院 (Sengong Courtyard) and travel to Xiangyang Lake, combining the locomotive, stations along the line, and time by the lake in one outing. If no service is confirmed, drive or take a taxi from Huanan County; you can visit the lake without taking the train.

Service and tickets

The train does not run on a fixed daily schedule. Confirm the operating season, departure time, stops, time at Xiangyang Lake, and return service in advance. If that day's service has not been confirmed, do not plan around a historical timetable; drive to the lake instead. A round-trip train ticket is listed at CNY 50, with free admission for children under 6; confirm the fare and child policy for your travel date.

Choose your visit

The narrow-gauge steam train

The Huanan forestry narrow-gauge railway was built in 1952. If the train is running, you can watch the locomotive arrive and depart from the platform and ride toward the lake. Whether open or enclosed carriages are available, which carriages you can choose, and how tickets are sold depend on the operator's arrangements. Follow staff directions when taking photos.

Sengong Courtyard and Huanan Station

桦南森工大院 (Sengong Courtyard) is beside the narrow-gauge station. This recreated forestry compound includes scenes such as an old shop, a cinema, and a site associated with educated youth. It is suitable for a short walk before departure or on a day without train service. Keep time to return to the platform, and do not enter the railway area for photos.

Xiangyang Lake paths and station sign

The main stops are the “向阳湖” (Xiangyang Lake) stone marker at the entrance, the 向阳湖站 (Xiangyang Lake Station) sign, shaded paths, and the lakeshore. In summer, walk along open sections of shore; in autumn, take a woodland walk. Check local notices before doing anything in or on the water; do not assume swimming or rentals are available.

For a larger forest-park outing with a different railway setting, see Daliangzihe National Forest Park.

For an open agricultural landscape instead of the forest railway, see Fujin Rice Field Park.

Build your day

Round trip on a train operating day

First confirm the day's departure and return arrangements at 桦南站 (Huanan Station), then ride to 向阳湖站 (Xiangyang Lake Station). Visit the stone marker, station, and lakeside paths for the amount of time confirmed by the operator. Actual arrival, stops, and return times follow the operator's notice for that day.

Add a short walk at Sengong Courtyard

桦南森工大院 (Sengong Courtyard) is right beside 桦南站 (Huanan Station), so you can visit on foot before departure or after returning. If the operator arranges a separate intermediate stop or group visit that day, follow the on-site notice. Leave enough time to return to the station; do not look for photo spots along the railway or enter the track area.

Drive to Xiangyang Lake when the train is not running

The drive from Huanan County takes about 20 minutes. Follow the main road to the entrance stone marker, then walk along the lakeside paths and shaded lanes for about 30 minutes, or stay longer in areas that are open. This route does not depend on the train timetable. If a road or section of shore is temporarily closed, follow the signs and turn back.

Get there

Huanan Station and Sengong Courtyard

Navigate to “桦南百年蒸汽小火车旅游区 (Huanan Centennial Steam Train Tourist Area)” or “桦南森工大院 (Huanan Sengong Courtyard).” 桦南站 (Huanan Station) is beside the courtyard. Driving from central Jiamusi takes about 1.5–2 hours, and parking is free. You can also take a train or coach to 桦南县城 (Huanan County) and then a taxi to the station; confirm local fares and wait times before setting out.

Xiangyang Lake on its own

Navigate to “向阳湖风景区 (Xiangyang Lake Scenic Area).” It is about 9–12 km northeast of Huanan County, around a 20-minute drive, and has free parking. A taxi from the county town is another option. Before setting out, confirm whether a shuttle is running, where it stops, and when it returns; arrange your ride back in advance rather than counting on finding a taxi at the lake.

Know before you go

Confirm train service and stay clear of the railway

Before departure, check whether the train is running that day, its departure and return times, fare, stops, and remaining tickets. If you cannot confirm service, use the driving route to Xiangyang Lake. Take photos from the platform or other open areas. Do not stand on the tracks, approach a moving locomotive, lean out of a window or doorway, chase the train, or cross the railway.

Lakeside seasons and supplies

The lake area is free to enter, but there are few food stalls. Bring drinking water and simple snacks. Check posted information for the operation, prices, and safety rules of any water activities. Summer is suited to lakeside walks, while autumn brings woodland color. Spend less time by the shore in cold or windy weather, and plan dinner back in Huanan County.
