A riverside rime area near the city
The Ashihada Rime Viewing Area is along the river in Ashi, about 11 km along Jifeng East Line in Fengman District, Jilin City. It is also known as “Little Rime Island” (小雾凇岛). This is a riverside viewing spot close to the city for a short walk, separate from a trip to the more distant rime villages of Hantun and Zengtong.
Willow trees along the river may develop rime in winter, depending on that day's weather and moisture. The typical season is from late December through the end of February, but conditions vary each year. Check the latest rime forecast before setting out.
Visit duration and access
The visit is mainly a short riverside walk. Allow about 1–2 hours for photos and stops; if the path is open, you can continue along the river and return the same way. Follow on-site directions for the entrance, parking and which riverbank sections are open.

Rime and river views
This viewing area follows the Songhua River and offers a chance to see frost-covered branches and river views from open paths. Morning light and mist can change quickly. Choose a departure time based on the day's forecast and traffic; rime is not guaranteed at a particular hour.
Ashihada is closer to the city and suits visitors who want to spend less time traveling and focus on one stretch of frosted trees. For a fuller winter village landscape, arrange a separate overnight visit to Wusong Island; the two places are not one short walking trail.
A short winter walk
The main activities are walking along the bank and taking photos. Food, hot drinks and other visitor services may be limited, especially outside peak winter periods. Bring what you need for a short riverside visit.
Build your day
Short riverside route
Navigate to “阿什哈达雾凇观赏带” or “万缕银丝.” Follow open paths along the river, stop at the frosted trees and viewpoints, then return by a safe route to your parking area or bus stop. Allow 1–2 hours; shorten the walk if it is crowded, slippery or a riverbank section is closed.
For photos, stay on the riverside path and in designated viewing areas; do not cross barriers to reach the water's edge. Roads may be congested on weekend mornings. Check traffic-police parking notices before leaving and allow time to walk from your parking spot.
Extend the walk along open riverbank paths
You can walk farther along the riverside path that is open that day and return the same way. Before setting out, confirm the open area, where your vehicle is parked and how you will return. Do not assume the path continues all the way to Fengman Bridge.
Get there
Check bus stops first
Check whether bus 33 or 333 still stops at Tongda Road (通达路). Before boarding, confirm the route, drop-off point and return arrangements with the bus operator. If the information is unclear, arrange a car directly to the viewing area.
By car and parking
Search for “阿什哈达雾凇观赏带” or “万缕银丝.” There are parking facilities nearby and traffic-police parking directions, but space, fees, temporary restrictions and entrance or exit directions depend on the day's notice and on-site instructions. Roads may be slippery after snow; drive slowly and allow time to walk.

Forecasts and viewing expectations
Rime is a weather phenomenon; neither the month nor a forecast rating guarantees that it will appear. The night before, check Jilin City's weather service and scenic-area updates. Once there, look at the actual river conditions. If there is no frost, take a short riverside walk or return to the city.
Warm clothing and ice safety
The river is cold and windy in the early morning. Wear a windproof warm coat, gloves and shoes with good grip. Keep spare phone and camera batteries warm against your body. Batteries drain faster in low temperatures; download a return map in advance and agree on a pickup time.
Ice thickness varies along the river and its banks. Do not step onto the ice or walk out onto the frozen river for photos. Stay on open riverside paths, away from holes in the ice, fast-moving water and unprotected banks. Follow police and park staff instructions if icy conditions or temporary restrictions affect access.
