Plan at a glance

A riverside walk in the city

In central Jilin City, the Songhua Riverfront paths are mainly around Songjiang Middle Road and Sandao Pier. They work well for a city walk and can connect riverside historic buildings with museums. Songhua Lake and Wusong Island require separate trips.

The open public sections of the riverfront path can be walked without a scenic-area ticket. Boat tours, performances and venues along the river have their own tickets and opening hours and are not included in the walking route.

When to visit

During the day, you can see the riverbank and historic buildings; at dusk, walk the path and see the city lights. Weather, events and boat operations affect the visit. If you are staying on land, allow about 1–2 hours.

Tickets and visit details

Choose your visit

Riverside path and museums

The 2,475-m Tingsong Lanbo (听松览博) riverside path connects several cultural sites, including the Jilin Naval Camp Museum (吉林水师营博物馆) and the Jilin Administrative History Museum (吉林建制博物馆). Choose a section that interests you, then visit any venue that is open that day.

The Jilin Catholic Church and Zhang Lianshan Mansion are recognizable historic buildings along the route. The mansion's interior use and venue access need separate confirmation; you can view the exterior from the road.

River views and boat tours

From the riverfront path, you can see the Songhua River, its bridges and the opposite bank. Records list daytime and night boat tours on the city stretch. Boat schedules and events vary by season; add a cruise only after confirming that tickets are on sale and boats are operating that day.

Rime may form along the river in winter, depending on temperature, humidity and wind. Conditions along the city riverfront are not a substitute for a separate trip to Wusong Island to see rime.

For a separate hillside park walk and temple visit, see Xuantianling Cultural Park and Xuandi Temple.

For an indoor visit to the city's historic Confucian temple complex, see Jilin City Confucius Temple Museum.

For a separate park-and-temple walk away from the riverfront, see Beishan Park (Jilin City).

Build your day

Walk from the church to Sandao Pier

Start near the Jilin Catholic Church at a riverside entrance and follow the Songjiang Middle Road path toward Sandao Pier. Pass riverside historic buildings and the Tingsong Lanbo section, then rest near the pier or arrange your return. Allow about 1–2 hours for walking, photos and short stops.

Museums along the route can provide indoor stops. Their open days and closing times vary; choose a venue that is open that day before deciding where to end your walk.

Half-day plan with a boat tour

If a boat is operating from Sandao Pier that day, walk along the river first, then board at the time on your ticket for views of the city. After disembarking, you can eat near Henan Street or Songjiang Middle Road. Boat tours require a separate ticket; check that day's ticket information for the vessel, route and return time.

If boats are not running, keep the outing on land and spend longer on the path or in a museum that is open. Add the cruise only after confirming the day's schedule, and allow enough time for your return.

Get there

By bus and on-foot entrances

By city bus, look for stops named “Songjiang Middle Road” (松江中路), “Jiangcheng Square” (江城广场) or near the Jilin City Government, then walk to an open riverfront entrance. The Jilin Naval Camp Museum moved to 77 Songjiang Middle Road (松江中路77号) in February 2026; the Jilin Administrative History Museum is at 65 Songjiang Middle Road (松江中路65号). Confirm stop names, routes and construction detours using that day's transit information.

By taxi and return pickup

For a taxi, use “吉林天主教堂” or “三道码头” as the drop-off point, and make sure the car stops at a legal passenger pickup and drop-off area. The riverside path is not a continuous vehicle pickup zone; choose a clear street exit or pickup point before arranging your return.

Know before you go

Check boat, venue and event schedules

Boat tours are optional. Confirm the day's boat schedule, ticket outlet, boarding pier and return time. If no suitable departure is available, walk on an open riverfront path or visit a museum that is open that day.

Dress warmly and stay safe by the water

The riverfront is windy and feels cold in winter. Wear windproof layers and keep your phone charged. Rime is a natural phenomenon; check the local forecast before setting out, but a forecast cannot guarantee that it will form.

Do not walk onto the river ice or cross barriers for photos, even when the bank is frozen. Stay on open paths and bridges. If snow, ice or temporary construction affects the route, follow barriers and staff directions.
