Plan at a glance

Distinguish the two locations

The official venue inside Daming Lake is Lao She Memorial Hall, also called the Lao She and Jinan Exhibition, at 271 Daming Lake Road. A separate Lao She Former Residence is near Baotu Spring; they are different places. This page covers only the memorial hall inside Daming Lake.

Tickets, hours, and time needed

Entry is free; bring an ID card for registration and no reservation is required. The hall is open 08:00–17:30, with last entry at 17:00. From Daming Lake South Gate, walk east about 500 metres; allow 30–60 minutes for the courtyard and exhibition.

Jinan-themed exhibitions

The displays use text, photographs, manuscripts, and objects to explain Lao She’s life and writing in Jinan. The mural of “Autumn in Jinan” near the entrance is a good starting point, while the grey-brick courtyard, trees, and traditional scale suit visitors who want literary context and quiet architectural photography.

Courtyard, sign wall, and sculpture

The literary sign wall, Lao She sculpture, and courtyard light are the main photo points. Afternoon shadows on the stone paving work well for architectural details; keep this memorial hall separate from Lao She’s former residence near Baotu Spring when planning your route.

Build your day

30-minute short visit

Enter Daming Lake South Gate and walk east about 500 metres to the hall. See the entrance mural and main exhibition first, then the courtyard, sign wall, and sculpture before returning to the lake. This fits naturally into a route along the south shore.

About 1-hour full visit

Spend 15–20 minutes reading the Lao She and Jinan exhibition, then photograph the courtyard and finish with Chaoran Tower, Qushuiting Street, or Baihua Pool from the south-gate side. Last entry is 17:00; Daming Lake remains open later, but the memorial hall does not.

Get there

Arrival and local transport

Buses 11, 41, K109, K95, and K98 stop at Shili No. 1 Hospital, from where you can walk to the hall. Metro is less direct than the bus; use Daming Lake South Gate as the navigation target, then follow the shoreline east.

Daming Lake South Gate, Qushuiting Street, and Baihua Pool connect well on foot. The memorial hall is inside the lake area, but the lake gate and hall entrance are separate, so carry your ID card for registration.

Practical considerations

The memorial hall follows its own hours and stops entry at 17:00. Daming Lake’s evening access does not extend the hall’s hours, so place the exhibition in your daytime route.

The hall suits quiet reading and architectural photography; avoid disturbing other visitors while taking photos. For meals, use Qushuiting Street, Furong Street, or restaurants outside the lake area—the hall is not a food stop.
