The riverside square and two museums at one site
The Eight Heroines memorial sculpture stands in the riverside square of Jiangbin Park and is an outdoor stop. The Eight Heroines Memorial Hall and Mudanjiang City Museum share one building at No. 421 West 2nd Road. The three can be connected on foot, but the sculpture is outside the museum building.
Free admission and opening hours
The sculpture, park and both museums are free, with no reservation required. Registration is required for indoor entry; current guidance refers to Chinese ID cards, while travellers using foreign passports should confirm the accepted document before visiting. Free guided tours are commonly offered around 09:00 and 13:30. The museum commonly opens Tuesday–Sunday from 09:00–15:30, with last admission around 15:00, and closes on Mondays. Confirm any construction or temporary changes before departure.

The riverside memorial sculpture
Completed in 1988 and designed by the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the granite sculpture group is about 8.8 metres high and 18 metres long. Its pedestal inscription was written by Deng Yingchao. Facing the riverside square, it is best viewed quietly from the front and side before entering the museums for the historical context.
The Eight Heroines Memorial Hall
The memorial hall shares the site with the city museum. Its focus is the story of the eight women soldiers and the history exhibition on the anti-Japanese resistance in Mudanjiang, with martyrs' belongings, photographs, text and reconstructed scenes. Keep quiet and do not pose for photos or speak loudly in front of memorial displays.
Mudanjiang City Museum
The second and third floors focus more on the Eight Heroines and revolutionary-martyr exhibitions. The fourth floor presents Mudanjiang history and urban memory exhibitions, including Bohai Kingdom artefacts, architectural components and old photographs. Visitors with broad historical interests can allow 1–2 hours, with particular attention to modern history and Mudanjiang's urban development.

The 30-minute outdoor route
Walk from the Jiangbin Park entrance to the riverside square. View the front of the sculpture, the pedestal inscription and the river, then return along the park path. For photos, choose the square's front view, side light at dusk or the night lighting, while keeping the quiet order expected at a memorial site.
The 1–2-hour complete route
See the sculpture first, then walk to the two museums at the same site and enter the Eight Heroines Memorial Hall and museum galleries. After finishing, you can return to the riverside for a walk. If the museum stops admission around 15:00, schedule both museums in the morning or early afternoon.
The floor order inside
For a quick visit, go from the introductory hall directly to the second-floor Eight Heroines exhibition, then continue to the Bohai Kingdom section of the fourth-floor Mudanjiang history exhibition. For a complete visit, begin in the first-floor introductory hall, pass through the revolutionary exhibitions on the second and third floors, and finish with the fourth-floor urban memory exhibition. The floor order helps you finish before closing.
Get there
From Mudanjiang Station
The drive from Mudanjiang Station to Jiangbin Park or the museum takes about 10 minutes. Many city buses serve the Jiangbin Park, Culture Square or Museum areas. For the sculpture, set the navigation destination to Jiangbin Park; for the indoor exhibitions, use Mudanjiang City Museum or the Eight Heroines Memorial Hall.
Parking and walking
Around 06:00, when the morning market is active, traffic and people increase around Jiangbin Park and parking becomes difficult. Take a bus, taxi or bicycle when possible. The two museums and the sculpture are suitable for walking between; once inside, follow the reception registration and floor directions.
Know before you go
Museum status and last admission
Mudanjiang City Museum was closed for construction from 13 January to 10 May 2026, and its full reopening status still needs to be confirmed. Before departure, check whether both museums are open, the day's free guided-tour times, last admission and any temporary exhibition arrangements.
Memorial-site etiquette
The sculpture, memorial hall and revolutionary-martyr exhibition are historical memorial spaces. Keep quiet, follow the visitor route, do not touch display cases and do not treat serious historical content as entertainment. Follow the museum's photography rules, and keep the outdoor square and paths clear.
Connecting with a riverside itinerary
