Separate Wuyang River Scenic Area from the ancient-town night boat
Wuyang River Scenic Area usually means the daytime gorge cruise outside Zhenyuan town, focused on natural scenery, river gorges, and karst landscapes. The ancient-town water tour is a night boat inside Zhenyuan Ancient Town. They are not the same pier or the same experience.
Plan a half-day round trip from Zhenyuan Ancient Town
The Wuyang River cruise pier is not in the core old-town area. It is about 17 km from Zhenyuan County town. In practice, take a taxi, private transfer, or ask your lodging to help arrange a car instead of treating it as a walkable old-town sight.
Check the ticket and boat package before buying
Budget CNY 40 for the Wuyang River entrance ticket and CNY 140 for the entrance-plus-boat package. Buying only the entrance ticket is usually not very useful, because the boat is the core experience.
Do not arrive at the pier near the final entry time
Wuyang River's daytime entry ends relatively early, and boat departures can depend on visitor flow. Arrive in the morning or early afternoon so you have time for ticketing, walking to the pier, waiting for the boat, and returning to town.
Return to the old town for dinner and night views
After the Wuyang River cruise, return to Zhenyuan Ancient Town for dinner, Zhusheng Bridge, and the riverside night view. Do not force Shiping Mountain, Qinglongdong, the Wuyang River cruise, and the night boat all into the same day.
✦Do not mix up the Wuyang River Scenic Area boat ticket with the Zhenyuan Ancient Town night boat ticket. The first is a daytime gorge cruise; the second is an old-town night view.
✦Budget CNY 140 for the entrance-plus-boat package. If you only want to spend around CNY 80, the ancient-town night boat is closer to that budget.
✦The Wuyang River pier is outside the old town. For overseas visitors, taxi or private transfer is more reliable than waiting for uncertain buses.
✦Sun and wind can be strong on the boat. Bring water, sun protection, and a light layer.
✦In rain, heavy fog, or poor water color, the gorge view is weaker. In that weather, use the time for Zhenyuan Ancient Town, Qinglongdong, or a slower indoor break.
✦If you need to catch a train the same day, do not make Wuyang River your last activity. Return transport and boat timing are not good for tight schedules.
✦Do not bring large luggage onto the boat. Leave it at your lodging or in the vehicle first.
