A free modern waterfront square
May Fourth Square is on Donghai West Road in Shinan District. It is an open public space, free to visit and needs no reservation. Metro Line 2 or Line 3 reaches the main sculpture area from May 4th Square Station Exits C and D. Allow 30–40 minutes for a short stop, or about 1.5–2.5 hours to walk on to the Olympic Sailing Center and Lover's Dam.
Fushan Bay light show
The Fushan Bay light show usually runs every evening from April 16 to September 15, approximately 19:30–22:00. The lights loop during that period rather than running as fixed separate shows. Strong wind, heavy rain, temporary events or seasonal changes may affect whether it runs that night, so check the day's arrangement before going to watch.

“The Wind of May” and the city coastline
The red “Wind of May” sculpture is May Fourth Square's main landmark. Around it, you can see Fushan Bay, the city skyline and the coastal path. It suits first-time visitors who want a quick introduction to Qingdao's new city area, as well as evening walks and night photography.
A flat modern waterfront path
Walk east from the square toward the Olympic Sailing Center, Flag Plaza and Lover's Dam. The route combines city buildings, sea views and the marina. The flat path works well for a slow walk and families; during the light show, crowds increase, so keep children and older companions within sight.
Build your day
The 1.5–2.5 hour waterfront walk
Start at “The Wind of May,” follow the coastal boardwalk east for about 15 minutes to the Olympic Sailing Center, then walk another 20 minutes along the breakwater to Lover's Dam. For the light show, choose an open view near Lover's Dam or the marina, and arrange your return transport before leaving.
The 30–40 minute short route
Leave the metro through Exit C, see “The Wind of May,” take a short walk along the water and return to the station. When time is limited, the square and near-shore path are enough. For a full city-lights panorama, include both walking and waiting time.

Metro and bus
Take Metro Line 2 or Line 3 to May 4th Square Station and leave through Exit C or D for the core area. Buses 601, 225, 210 and 402, among others, stop at “May Fourth Square” or “Olympic Sailing Center.”
Parking and walking at night
The area is a business district with complex roads, limited parking and relatively high fees, so public transport is easier. Wind can increase along the waterfront at night; bring a light jacket in spring and autumn, and follow the crowd flow after the light show ends.

Light-show schedule
From April 16 to September 15, the lights usually run 19:30–22:00 each evening, but severe weather or temporary events may stop the show. Crowds gather around the square and Lover's Dam, so choose a viewing position early and keep personal belongings secure.
Street touts and waterfront safety
People may approach you nearby to promote boat rides or guided tours; check the price and inclusions before boarding. Sunlight is strong by the sea and wind can change quickly. Do not cross the barriers near the breakwater or marina, and keep away from crowded edges when traveling with children or older companions.
