Plan at a glance

Three cableways and three lower entrances

Mount Sanqing currently uses three main cableways: Jinsha, Waishuangxi and Gangshou. Jinsha is on the east side near Sanqing Mountain High-speed Railway Station, Waishuangxi is on the south side, and Gangshou is another entrance for travelling up and down the mountain. The three lower entrances are in different locations, while the mountain trails can connect; ticket products, downhill exits and shuttle arrangements cannot be mixed, so choose the up-and-down combination when booking.

Tickets and walking effort

The main scenic-area ticket is about CNY 120. A round trip on Jinsha or Waishuangxi costs about CNY 125 (about CNY 70 up and CNY 55 down), making the adult base budget about CNY 245 with admission. A round trip on Gangshou costs about CNY 150 (about CNY 85 up and CNY 65 down), making the corresponding combination about CNY 270. For a cross-cableway trip, calculate the specific one-way fares and the day's combination product. Real-name booking or reservations apply: Chinese residents can use ID-card verification, while overseas visitors should book with a supported document and carry the original passport for the day's on-site verification process.

The scenic area and cableways generally operate around 08:00–17:00, but weather and crowds can affect service, so aim to reach the cableway station by about 16:30. Even with a cableway, expect about 5–8 km of walking on the mountain; the cliffside paths on the West Coast and Sunshine Coast can be uncomfortable for visitors afraid of heights.

Choose your visit

Nanqing Garden's granite peaks

Nanqing Garden contains the Goddess of the East and Giant Python Emerging from the Mountain, two representative granite formations. The Goddess of the East is best viewed for its side profile and pine outline, while Giant Python Emerging from the Mountain is defined by its upright stone pillar and upward-looking viewpoints.

West Coast and Sunshine Coast

The West Coast has more than 3,000 metres of cliffside walkway along the precipice, with relatively few stairs but a strong sense of exposure. Sunshine Coast has pines, viewing platforms and valley views, and in suitable weather you may see cloud moving through the paths. The two sections feel different enough to walk consecutively if you have the time.

Yutai sunrise and photography

Yutai is in Nanqing Garden and is a common sunrise viewpoint. With the usual cableway operating hours, seeing sunrise normally means staying on the mountain the night before. If the scenic area announces an early service or special entry arrangement for a particular date, plan according to that day's notice. Sunrise, sea of clouds and sunset light on the West Coast all depend on the weather and visibility.

Build your day

4–6-hour Jinsha route

Take the Jinsha Cableway up into Nanqing Garden. Visit the Goddess of the East and Giant Python Emerging from the Mountain first, then continue to the West Coast cliffside walkway and Sunshine Coast before returning to the Jinsha Cableway to descend. The route covers about 5.5 km of paths and takes about 4–6 hours, with mostly steady walkways.

If you want sunset light on the West Coast, work backwards from the last departure of the Jinsha or Gangshou Cableway. In heavy fog, wind or rain, or when your energy drops, ask on site which return direction is workable that day.

5–7-hour Waishuangxi route

Take the Waishuangxi Cableway up, visit Wanshou Garden first, then continue to Nanqing Garden for Giant Python Emerging from the Mountain. Follow the West Coast and Sunshine Coast afterwards, and return via the Waishuangxi Cableway. The southern ascent has more steps and steeper sections; the complete route takes about 5–7 hours.

3–4-hour Jinsha round trip

When time is limited and you have good stamina, take Jinsha up, see the Goddess of the East and Giant Python Emerging from the Mountain, then return the same way. This takes about 3–4 hours and covers only a small part of Nanqing Garden; the West Coast and Sunshine Coast are outside the route.

Get there

Railway station and public transport

From Sanqing Mountain High-speed Railway Station, take a taxi or bus to the eastern Jinsha Cableway; the ride takes about 15–20 minutes. A taxi costs about CNY 40–50. Buses from Shangrao Railway Station also serve Yushan County or Mount Sanqing, but they are less frequent and take longer. Check the connection separately before heading to Waishuangxi or Gangshou.

By car, navigate to Mount Sanqing Scenic Area. Parking near Jinsha costs about CNY 30–50 per day, while the Waishuangxi lot is smaller. Confirm whether Jinsha, Waishuangxi or Gangshou is the correct entrance for your accommodation and route before driving in, so you do not end up at another cableway and have to turn back.

Know before you go

Weather, heights and equipment

Mount Sanqing has many mountain paths, cliffside walkways and steps, and the exposed sections of the West Coast can be difficult for anyone afraid of heights. Wear shoes with good grip and consider hiking poles or knee supports. Rain and fog reduce visibility; sunrise, sea of clouds and sunset are weather-dependent experiences rather than fixed parts of the visit.

Supplies and mountain accommodation

Supplies reach the mountain by manual transport. Instant noodles cost about CNY 15–20 and bottled water about CNY 10, so carrying your own water and high-energy snacks is useful. Mountain accommodation is basic, and ground-floor rooms may be damp; ask about the floor and bathroom when booking.

Confirm the cableway ticket, reservation, last departure and entrance shuttle for the day. Unofficial guides soliciting visitors by the roadside are not part of the scenic area's service; follow the scenic-area signs. Nanqing Garden, the West Coast and Sunshine Coast form a connected mountain route, and your return must match the downhill cableway you selected.
