Plan at a glance
The public riverbank
The Haihe Riverside Walk covers public riverbanks, bridges, and an urban walking experience. The core section can begin at Tianjin Station, Jinwan Square, or another permitted riverside access point. Tianjin Station to the Tianjin Eye is about 3–4 kilometres, but river paths, bridge crossings, and temporary barriers can change the actual distance. There is no unified ticket, entrance, or opening time.
How long to allow
The section from Tianjin Station through Jinwan Square, Beian Bridge, and the Italian Style Area works as a 1.5–3 hour walk. Continuing to Sanchahekou and the Tianjin Eye requires more time, energy, bridge crossings, and return planning. The cruise and Tianjin Eye both require separate reservations and tickets; the riverside walk does not include either experience.

Bridges and urban space
Jiefang Bridge, Beian Bridge, Dagu Bridge, and Yongle Bridge, where the Tianjin Eye stands, each have a different structure and urban history. They are useful for viewing buildings, water, and public space while walking. Jinwan Square, the Italian Style Area, and Sanchahekou offer different city scales; choose bridges according to time and energy.
Daylight, dusk, and seasonal views
Daylight is better for bridge and building details, while dusk shows changing sky colour. Whether the riverbank lights turn on, their brightness, and their timing change with season, events, weather, and management. There is no fixed light-show time to rely on. Gulls and other seasonal sights may appear in winter; do not feed wild birds, and expect their presence to vary with season and weather.
Build your day
A 1–2 hour core section
Start at Tianjin Station, see Jiefang Bridge and Jinwan Square, then walk north along permitted riverside paths toward Beian Bridge and finish in the Italian Style Area or at a nearby metro station. At each bridge area, confirm the crossing and riverbank path. Do not use the outside of railings or a closed waterside platform as a shortcut.
A 2–4 hour extension
When continuing from the Italian Style Area toward Ancient Culture Street or Sanchahekou, choose an open bridge and public road first. At the Tianjin Eye, photograph it from the bank or reserve a Ferris-wheel ride separately. Before an evening extension, confirm the return point for the metro, bus, or ride-hailing car. The cruise pier, Ferris-wheel entrance, and public path are separate; use the relevant entrance navigation after arrival.

Metro access points
Tianjin Station is served by Metro Lines 2, 3, and 9. Jinwan Square can be reached from nearby stations on Lines 1 and 3. The Italian Style Area, Ancient Culture Street, and Tianjin Eye each have different nearest stations. Navigate to “Jiefang Bridge,” “Jinwan Square,” “Beian Bridge,” or a specific public riverside entrance instead of searching only for “Haihe,” which can produce an unclear drop-off point.
Driving and walking safety
Parking near the core riverbank is limited and prices may change, so public transport or a legitimate car park followed by walking is preferable. Bridges, riverbanks, and squares have mixed pedestrian and vehicle movement. Do not photograph from a traffic lane at night, climb railings, enter a temporarily closed area, or approach an unprotected waterside edge.
Know before you go
Lighting and activities
Haihe lighting, building projections, festival activities, and riverside performances can change with the date and weather, so they are not guaranteed to run on a fixed daily schedule. If combining the walk with a cruise or the Tianjin Eye, secure the reserved activity first and use the riverside walk to fill the time before or after it.
Food and return
Jinwan Square, the Italian Style Area, and Ancient Culture Street have food and rest options, but each business has its own hours, queues, and prices. On a longer walk, stop at an open business or public rest area. Confirm the evening return route early and use public transport or a legitimate ride-hailing car. Winter gulls and feeding activities are not fixed itinerary items.
Completing the walk in sections
With limited energy, finish a section at Jinwan Square, Beian Bridge, or the Italian Style Area, then take the metro before starting another section. The Tianjin Eye can be treated as a separate section; the river walk has no fixed loop.
Photography on bridges
Jiefang Bridge, Beian Bridge, and other bridge decks still carry pedestrians and vehicles. Keep to the side and complete the composition promptly. If there is construction, a barrier, or crowd control, follow the public-road detour.
