Location and experience
Zhangyuan is at 59 Anshan Road in Heping District. After entering the courtyard, visitors can see the main building, displays, and selected immersive experiences. A courtyard, vintage vehicles, and the main rooms take about 40 minutes; to attend the full “津门往事” promenade performance and connect it with the exhibition rooms, allow 1.5–2 hours. Zhangyuan is next to Jingyuan, but the tickets, programmes, and entrances are managed separately.
Tickets and opening
The basic ticket is about CNY30 and has previously included admission and one “津门往事” performance. A puzzle package has been around CNY80, but whether these combinations are still sold must be checked on the day’s ticket page. Opening is generally Tuesday to Sunday around 9:00–17:30, with last entry at 16:30; it is usually closed on Mondays and public holidays may bring changes. Performance times such as 10:45 must be checked against the day’s programme.

Building and displays
The rickshaw, military jeep, and red-brick main building in the courtyard create the first sense of place. The first-floor corridor and selected second-floor scenes add views of the architecture and modern urban life. Visitors interested in film locations can look for areas associated with “Lurk” where access is permitted; film sets are not the same as the original historical appearance.
Performances and puzzles
“津门往事” is a promenade performance in which the audience moves between exhibition rooms with the actors. “破晓” is a separate live puzzle experience. Performance length, audience interaction, session times, group size, and the connection with each ticket may change. Check the day’s programme and entry requirements rather than relying on a particular actor or repeated scene.
Build your day
A 40-minute quick route
After entering the courtyard, see the vintage vehicles first, then follow the signs into the main building and choose the first-floor corridor and open second-floor scenes. Finish at the exit and gift shop. If a performance requires a separate check-in or session entry, make sure the quick route does not interfere with the ticketed time.
A 1.5–2 hour full route
Confirm the “津门往事” session and assembly point first, then arrange the main building and courtyard around it. After the performance, follow staff directions to leave or see rooms you missed. If you plan to walk 3–5 minutes to Jingyuan, confirm Zhangyuan’s closing time and Jingyuan’s last entry; being next door does not guarantee enough time for both.
Get there
Metro and walking
Take Metro Line 1 to Anshan Road Station. From Exit B or C, walk about five minutes to No. 59. Use the Zhangyuan plaque and street entrance as your guide; Jingyuan at No. 70 and commercial spaces on Shanxi Road are not Zhangyuan’s entrance.
Driving and connecting through the district
Roads in the older central area are narrow and parking is limited, so do not drive to the door looking for a space. If driving, park at a legitimate location and walk. Zhangyuan and Jingyuan are suitable for walking between, while Porcelain House and Zhang Xueliang Former Residence generally require a separate bicycle or taxi connection.
Know before you go
Performance order and photography
During a promenade performance, follow the group and do not stop on narrow stairs, in passageways, or on the actors’ route. Photography, recording, and audience interaction follow the venue’s rules. The puzzle experience has its own price and time and is not automatically included for a short-visit ticket.
Combined tickets and weather
If a Zhangyuan–Jingyuan combined ticket is available that day, confirm its contents, valid period, and whether separate checks are required. Indoor performances can be affected by crowds and equipment arrangements. Exhibition rooms may feel warm in summer and the courtyard cold in winter, so allow time for queues and walking. The two residences still use separate tickets and check-in procedures.
Performance assembly
After buying a basic ticket, check the day’s assembly point and admission group. Once the promenade performance begins, follow the group. If you miss a session, follow staff instructions; availability at the next session must be confirmed on site.
Walking between the two gardens
Although Zhangyuan and Jingyuan are next to each other, visitors still walk on public roads and check in again. Rain, group activities, or road barriers can change the estimated 3–5 minutes, so check the actual passage before setting out.
