An island day set by the ferry
Guishan Island combines a steep sea-view road, a naval-history memorial area and a rocky coast with beach stops. Island sights are free, but the ferry schedule is the fixed constraint for every day trip.
From Xiangzhou Port, the crossing takes about 50 minutes and costs CNY 100 one way. Jiuzhou Port is about 45 minutes at CNY 100 one way, while Shenzhen Shekou takes around 50 minutes at CNY 120 one way.
Choose the length around your pace
A 5-6 hour route covers the harbour-side icons, Aimin Road, Guishan Ship Memorial Park, the lighthouse and Yiwan Beach. An 8-hour visit gives the cliff-inscription corridor and rocky boardwalk more room; stay two days for North Mountain and the greenway.
Buy ferry tickets two to three days ahead for busy dates. The last return sailing is generally around 17:00-17:50, so book the boat first and work the route backwards from it.

A 5-6 hour harbour-to-coast route
Walk from the pier to Gui Xiaobao and the zebra crossing, then follow Aimin Road to Guishan Ship Memorial Park. Continue along the coastal boardwalk to No. 1 Dyke Lighthouse and finish at Yiwan Beach.
This is the most direct route when the ferry leaves you only a short island window. Take the uphill section steadily and leave the beach stop short enough to return to the pier without rushing.
An 8-hour first visit
Take the sightseeing bus to the far end of Aimin Road, see the Rainbow Ring Road, zebra crossing and Gui Xiaobao, then walk downhill toward the harbour. In the afternoon, continue through Guishan Ship Memorial Park, the cliff-inscription corridor, the rocky boardwalk and No. 1 Dyke Lighthouse before Yiwan Beach at sunset.
Starting uphill by bus is kinder on your legs and preserves the downhill sea view. It also gives you time to slow down at the memorial park rather than compressing the historic section into a quick pass-through.
A two-day island stay
On day one, use Aimin Road and the Sky Mirror, then watch the west-coast sunset and have seafood. On day two, go to North Mountain for sunrise, walk the roughly 4 km greenway from North Mountain Reservoir to Qiwan Viewpoint, and add Dolphin Bay if time allows.
An overnight stay is worthwhile if you want the greenway and sunrise without sacrificing the coast and memorial park. It also makes the ferry schedule less restrictive for lunch and sunset.
Build your day
Use Aimin Road for the first sea view
Aimin Road is the island's best-known downhill sea-view road, but the uphill approach is steep. Take the sightseeing bus up, then walk down through the Rainbow Ring Road, zebra crossing and Gui Xiaobao section at your own pace.
The sightseeing bus has a CNY 30 day pass, with point-to-point rides generally CNY 5-10. An e-bike costs CNY 80-100 per day, but the bus is the easier choice if you do not want to manage a steep road or a return rental.
Leave the memorial park and coast for the afternoon
Guishan Ship Memorial Park explains the Wanshan naval battle and leads into the cliff inscriptions and roughly 1 km rocky coastal boardwalk. Give this section time: it is both the history stop and the transition to the lighthouse coast.
Continue to No. 1 Dyke Lighthouse and the sea-wall swing, then finish at Yiwan Beach. Yiwan has sand, a piano sculpture and swings, making it an easy final stop before heading back to the pier.
Treat the return boat as the day's finish line
Keep the last ferry in mind while moving from the lighthouse to Yiwan Beach; the return sailing is not something to leave to chance. A good route order is uphill road first, coastal history in the middle, then the lighthouse and beach last.

Pick the ferry port before the route
Ferries depart from Xiangzhou Port, Jiuzhou Port and Shenzhen Shekou. Xiangzhou Port is CNY 100 one way for about 50 minutes; Jiuzhou Port is CNY 100 for about 45 minutes; Shekou is CNY 120 for about 50 minutes.
On busy dates, buy tickets two to three days ahead and book a return as well as the outbound sailing. Make your final island stop conservative enough for the usual last-return window of around 17:00-17:50.

The sightseeing bus costs CNY 30 for a day pass, or around CNY 5-10 for individual rides. Use it for the steep uphill approach to Aimin Road, then walk downhill and along the coast.
E-bikes are available for CNY 80-100 per day, but they are less useful if you want to stop often on the rocky boardwalk or are carrying beach gear. Walking plus the bus is usually the simplest first-visit combination.
Know before you go
Pack for exposed roads and coast
Bring water, snacks, sun protection and insect repellent. Aimin Road and the coast are exposed, and the steep uphill section can feel much harder in heat if you decide not to use the bus.
If you are staying near Aimin Road and carrying luggage, choose accommodation that offers sightseeing-bus pickup. That avoids starting or ending the stay with a long uphill haul from the pier.
Handle food and island-hopping carefully
For seafood, confirm both the weight and any preparation charge before ordering. This is especially useful if you are eating after the coastal route and need to keep to the return-ferry time.
Do not assume another island can be added on the day without checking boat times, weather and luggage logistics. On Guishan, the ferry schedule should set the itinerary; the road, coast and beach are much easier once that constraint is fixed.
