A museum and a riverside garden

富锦市博物馆 (Fujin Museum) is beside 文化广场 (Culture Square) in a former church. 松花江碑林 (Songhua River Stele Forest) is an open-air garden on 中央大街 (Central Street). They are separate places in town, each with its own entrance and schedule. Admission to the museum and stele garden is free. When the museum closes for lunch, visit the garden and return after it reopens; allow extra time for the transfer and a meal if combining both as a half-day outing.

Museum hours

Fujin Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 11:30 and 14:00 to 17:00, and closed on Mondays. Registration may require a valid identity document. International visitors should bring a passport and confirm in advance which documents the museum accepts. Songhua River Stele Forest has no indoor-museum lunch break or weekly closing day, so you can visit it while the museum is closed.

The former church and museum collection

Fujin Museum occupies a former church, with a red-brick exterior and pointed tower. Inside, see Hezhen fish-skin clothing, a giant tractor in the Beidahuang reclamation exhibit, and historical objects such as stone tools and pottery from the Neolithic period through the Qing dynasty.

Free guided tours and themed galleries

The museum has galleries on local history, the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, Beidahuang reclamation, and fish-skin craft. Free guided tours are scheduled at 10:00 and 14:30; ask at the entrance whether a tour is available that day. Allow about 1–2 hours for all the galleries.

Songhua River Stele Forest

The garden is arranged around a central axis and calligraphy carvings. Highlights include the roughly 60-ton “和” character stele (meaning “harmony”), a mural of the poem “沁园春·雪” (often translated as “Snow—To the Tune of Qinyuanchun”), a covered stele corridor, and traditional-style pavilions. Find a suitable angle to read the mural, then visit the pavilions near sunset for river views. The garden is on the south bank of the Songhua River and works well for a cultural walk and a short riverside stop.

For a larger wetland landscape beyond the city, see Fujin National Wetland Park.

For seasonal rice-field views nearby, see Fujin Rice Field Park.

Build your day

A 30-to-60-minute museum visit

Enter through the east entrance and complete registration. See the fish-skin clothing and the giant tractor in the Beidahuang exhibit, then follow the main route through the museum. If time allows, stop to get a stamp on the first floor. For a 30-minute visit, prioritize the main exhibits; the museum still closes at 11:30 and 17:00.

A one-to-two-hour full museum route

Start with historical objects from the Songhua River basin, then visit the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army gallery, followed by the Beidahuang reclamation and fish-skin exhibits. If a free tour begins at 10:00 or 14:30, follow its order; ask at the entrance whether it is running.

Add the stele forest for a half-day outing

Visit the museum during its opening hours, then go to Songhua River Stele Forest through the east gate. Follow the central axis to the “和” stele and mural, then walk through the eastern stele corridor to the pavilions and river view. If the museum is closed on Monday, visit only the garden or return to the museum on another day.

Get there

Museum and Culture Square

Navigate to “富锦市博物馆 (Fujin Museum).” The east entrance for individual visitors is beside 文化广场 (Culture Square), near the intersection of 南二道街 (South Erdao Street) and 健康路 (Jiankang Road). The starting taxi fare within town is about CNY 6, and there is free parking by the museum.

Stele forest and transfer between the two

Navigate to “松花江碑林 (Songhua River Stele Forest)” at 中央大街 21 号 (No. 21 Central Street); its main entrance is on the east side, with free parking nearby. Set a separate destination for each place. Bus routes are unclear; you can walk or take a short taxi ride between them.

Know before you go

Registration, closures, and guided tours

Registration may require a valid identity document. International visitors should bring a passport and confirm which documents the museum accepts. Fujin Museum is closed on Mondays and from 11:30 to 14:00 for lunch. Free tours are usually scheduled at 10:00 and 14:30; ask whether one is running that day. The stele forest is not affected by the museum's indoor opening hours.

Photography, breaks, and food

The museum's red-brick exterior, pointed tower, and recreated street scenes are good subjects. Follow gallery signs for photography and flash rules. In the stele forest, photograph the stone carvings, mural, and riverside pavilions. Nearby restaurants include Jianglong Hotel and Fulai Shun: the former serves dishes such as crispy sweet-and-sour pork and potato, eggplant, and green pepper stir-fry; the latter serves pork strips, pickled-cabbage stew, and glass noodles. Confirm restaurant hours and parking before going.
