Plan at a glance

Two separate places to take a break

建三江人民广场 (Jiansanjiang People's Square) and 建三江植物园 (Jiansanjiang Botanical Garden) are two separate public green spaces in central Jiansanjiang. Both are free and open all day, and work well for a break while waiting for transport or spending a short time in town. Navigate to each place separately. If you are catching a train or bus, check its departure time first and plan the roughly 30-minute square walk around it.

How much time to allow

Allow about 30 minutes for People's Square and 30 minutes to an hour for the botanical garden. Neither has the scale of a major nature attraction; they are better suited to a rest stop or a look at everyday life in town.

The “Grain” sculpture at People's Square

“建三江公园” (Jiansanjiang Park) usually refers to the open green around 建三江人民广场 (Jiansanjiang People's Square), whose center has a red “谷粒” (Grain) sculpture symbolizing agriculture. Residents come here to walk, gather, and let children play. It is a good place for a short stop to observe daily life. Ask before photographing specific residents or children, and do not block paths or activities.

The “Root” sculpture and reclamation figures at the botanical garden

The separate Jiansanjiang Botanical Garden has a “Root” sculpture, a group of figures commemorating the 1956 land reclamation, a pavilion by the pond, and planted paths. Pause by the pond; when the water is calm, the pavilion's reflection makes a good photograph. In winter, focus on the sculptures and figures when the trees are bare. The garden is mainly a neighborhood green space with sculptures, not a large botanical collection.

Evening and seasonal views

The greenery is fuller in summer. People's Square may have evening views, and the botanical garden may add lighting during holidays, but lighting is not guaranteed. Photograph the sculptures during the day. In the evening, you can look for square activities, but do not wait around in strong winds or for lighting that may not come on.

For a village-based Korean folk culture visit, see Xinghuo Korean Folk Park.

For a larger agricultural landscape and viewing tower, see Fujin Rice Field Park.

Build your day

A 30-minute People's Square walk

Navigate to “建三江人民广场 (Jiansanjiang People's Square).” Enter from one side, walk to the central “谷粒” (Grain) sculpture for a photograph, then follow the paths around the green. There is no single ticket gate; after your short stop, return the way you came or head back to the station.

A one-hour botanical garden walk

Navigate separately to “建三江植物园 (Jiansanjiang Botanical Garden).” From the main entrance, follow the main path around the garden. See the “根” (Root) sculpture and “1956” reclamation figures first, then rest by the pavilion beside the pond. The garden's main route uses open paths; if you are unfamiliar with the layout, follow the main path and return the same way.

Visit both places

If you have time while passing through Jiansanjiang, visit People's Square and the botanical garden as two separate stops. There is no confirmed walking connection between them, so travel by taxi or car rather than planning a continuous walk. If time is short, choose the place closer to your hotel or station.

Get there

Navigation and local transport

Search for “建三江人民广场 (Jiansanjiang People's Square)” for the square's green space and “建三江植物园 (Jiansanjiang Botanical Garden)” for the garden, between 建三江医院 (Jiansanjiang Hospital) and 阳光农业保险公司 (Sunshine Agricultural Insurance). Taxis are available from the railway station or town center. There is currently no dependable bus information; arrange a vehicle in advance.

Parking and walking

There are free parking areas around People's Square and free parking by the botanical garden entrance. The parking areas and walking entrances are different. Use sidewalks and park entrances, and do not cross green-space barriers.

Know before you go

Opening, lighting, and weather

Both public spaces are open all day, but facilities and evening lighting have separate arrangements. The botanical garden is generally better during the day. The square and garden are exposed, so bring a jacket if the wind picks up in the evening.

Food and expectations

In town, Panlong Pancake Northeastern Cuisine serves dishes such as spicy chicken, dry-fried beef, and pancakes. There are also snacks near the railway station. Food options inside the parks are unclear; after an hour's walk, return to town for a meal.
