Plan at a glance

The former site and entrance

Suifenhe City Museum is at No. 94 Guanghua Road. It occupies a yellow castle-like building converted from a 1913 Russian émigré school, making the entrance easy to recognise. It is in the city centre, with access through the building's main door and exhibitions arranged across floors and a train-carriage-style corridor.

Free registration and opening hours

Admission is free and no reservation is required. Registration is required on entry; the available guidance refers to Chinese ID cards, while travellers using foreign passports should confirm the accepted document in advance. Visitors can collect a commemorative stamp inside. The common opening reference is 08:30–17:00, but information about a lunch break from 11:30–13:30 and Monday closure is not consistent. Travellers coming from a distance must confirm the day's opening, lunch break and last admission time.

Choose your visit

The building and train-carriage corridor

The yellow castle-like building, reliefs and interior layout are worth photographing. The second-floor corridor is designed like a green-painted train, with each gallery resembling a different carriage. First-time visitors can view the exterior before entering the second floor to understand the railway theme.

The Chinese Eastern Railway and city exhibitions

The Chinese Eastern Railway Memory Museum brings together Russian-style architectural details and railway artefacts. The first floor also covers Suifenhe's history, port trade and a natural-history area. Look for the 1902 typewriter, the Tsarist-era samovar and the replica of Boundary Marker No. 9 among the displays.

Who will enjoy this museum

History, railway and architecture enthusiasts can allow 1–1.5 hours. Urban walkers can combine it with Ren Tou Lou, St. Nicholas Church and the White Building. The museum does not currently list a clear guided-tour service, so visitors who want background context should learn about the Chinese Eastern Railway in advance or read the panels at their own pace.

For the controlled border-visit route outside the city centre, see Suifenhe National Gate Scenic Area.

Build your day

The 30–45-minute fast route

After entering, go straight to the second-floor Chinese Eastern Railway Memory exhibition, then return to the first floor for the port-trade history and natural-history areas. Pay special attention to the replica of Boundary Marker No. 9. If the visit is close to the lunch break or closing time, complete the open priority galleries first and then decide whether to stay longer.

The 1–1.5-hour complete route

Start on the first floor with “Suifenhe in History,” then follow the train-carriage corridor to the second floor. Visit the Chinese Eastern Railway Memory exhibition and themed galleries in sequence, then return to the 1902 typewriter, samovar and other artefacts. The floor-by-floor order reduces backtracking between galleries.

Linking it with a city walk

Ren Tou Lou and St. Nicholas Church are about a 5–10-minute walk from the museum, and the White Building can be added to the same urban walk. Each has its own architecture, exhibitions and opening arrangements. If the museum closes temporarily, visit the city buildings that can be seen outdoors first.

Get there

From the station or airport into the city

After arriving at Suifenhe Station or Suifenhe Dongning Airport, go into the city and continue to No. 94 Guanghua Road. The museum is close to central sights, making it easy to combine with walking. City taxis are usually short trips at the starting fare; when ride-hailing is scarce, try calling a taxi by phone.

Parking and walking

Look for a city parking space or temporary roadside parking near the museum; availability changes by time of day. After parking, walking is the easier way to visit. There is no direct metro information, so plan around the station, city roads and walking distances.

Know before you go

Lunch break and Monday information

Public opening information is inconsistent: 08:30–17:00 is common, but the lunch break and whether the museum opens on Monday are not uniform. Before travelling from a distance, confirm the day's opening, lunch break and last admission time. The White Building follows a different schedule.

Registration, guides and photography

The available registration guidance is based on Chinese ID cards. Travellers with foreign passports should contact the museum in advance to ask whether their passport can be used. The museum does not have a clearly advertised guided-tour service; follow the gallery's on-site rules when photographing exhibits and architectural details, and avoid disturbing other visitors.

Combining attractions and meals

The White Building, Railway Memory Museum and St. Nicholas Church can be scheduled separately. Use a daytime closure period for outdoor architecture, and look for Russian restaurants or bakeries in the city. Confirm which shops are open when you arrive, then plan the time to return to the station.
