Plan at a glance

Plaza, viewing platform and opening hours

Happiness Gate is at F01 Happiness Park, Binhai North Road. The plaza can be entered from several directions and is listed as free and open all day without a reservation. The paid viewing-platform experience is listed at a reference CNY 50, with reference hours of 08:30–17:00; decide whether to go up according to the day's service and your group's interests.

Allow about 30 minutes for the plaza, Happiness Gate and Wanfutu. A southbound coastal route combining Weihai Park and Yuehai Park takes about 2–3 hours. The plaza, paid viewing platform and coastal footpath are three separate ways to spend time here.

Wanfutu and the framed sea view

Wanfutu is beneath Happiness Gate, with a reference diameter of 13.8 metres and “fu” characters in different styles. The gate itself can frame Liugong Island and the sea in a photograph. Visitors interested in city landmarks, coastal walks and photography can complete the main experience from the plaza.

Going up to the viewing platform is an optional paid viewpoint for visitors who want a higher view of the harbour and coastline; it is not required for the free plaza visit. If you choose it, confirm the opening time and on-site ticket arrangements separately.

Build your day

A 30-minute plaza route

Enter from Happiness Gate Plaza, photograph the front of the structure and Wanfutu, then stay by the coast for a short walk before leaving. The gate can frame Liugong Island in the distance, and the light before and after sunset is better for photographs.

A 2–3 hour coastal footpath

Start at Happiness Gate and walk south along the coastal path to Weihai Park for the Big Picture Frame, then continue to Yuehai Park for the lighthouse and seagrass houses. This is a continuous coastal walk; arrange parking and the return before setting out, as the three locations are separate open spaces.

Get there

Bus and parking

Buses 7 and 10 stop at Jinhaian Hotel. Walk a few minutes along Binhai North Road to Happiness Gate. Drivers can navigate to parking near “Happiness Gate Plaza”; the reference parking price is CNY 2 per hour.

Parking around the plaza can be tight in peak periods and on holidays, so public transport is more reliable. Drivers can park farther away and walk to the plaza; there is no single enclosed entrance, and the plaza can also be reached from the coastal path.

Know before you go

Viewing platform and crowds

The plaza is free; the viewing platform is listed at a reference CNY 50 and reference hours of 08:30–17:00. Shade and ventilation at the top in summer depend on the facilities available that day. Weekends and holidays are busier from 10:00–16:00, while early morning and evening are better for photographs and walks.

Shopping and rest stops

Ask the price before buying drinks or small goods around the plaza. Cafés and restaurants along the southbound coastal path can be used for a break, but each business has its own hours and prices.
