Plan at a glance
Village scope and entrance
Cangpo Ancient Village is in Cangpo Village, Yantou Town, Yongjia County, Wenzhou. The usual entrance is the main ticket gate at the village entrance. Residents still live in the village, the lanes are narrow and some stone paths are uneven, so it works best as a short cultural stop along the Nanxi River route.
The main village route and residential lanes do not have exactly the same access arrangements. Enter through the main gate and buy a ticket when you plan to visit. Side paths are living access routes, not a way around the ticket gate, and residential areas are not suitable for extended photography stops.
Ticket, hours and time needed
The official ticket costs about CNY 10 per person and usually does not require advance booking. Opening hours are about 08:00-17:00. A quick look at the main layout takes about 40 minutes; for a first visit that includes several courtyards, pavilions and the fields at the edge of the village, allow 1.5-2 hours.
Cangpo is compact and works well with Furong Ancient Village and Lishui Street as a half-day ancient-village route. Food and retail options inside the village are limited, so combine it with nearby stops if you are making a long trip for only a very short visit.

The Four Treasures of the Study layout
Cangpo's layout uses paper, brush, ink and inkstone as its organising idea. The straight stone-paved main street represents the brush, the long stone and water features represent ink, the lotus pond represents the inkstone and the full village area represents paper. Walking along the main street and pond makes the layout easier to understand than taking photographs only at the entrance.
The old houses, lanes and water form the main visual experience. Cangpo is still a living village, and some buildings may be unused or have limited maintenance. Keep quiet and do not enter residents' private spaces.
Cangpo Creek Gate, Renji Temple and Wangxiong Pavilion
Cangpo Creek Gate is the wooden gate tower at the village entrance, where the reflection is best viewed from the creek side. Renji Temple has an old cypress; its architectural details and trees suit a short stop. Wangxiong Pavilion requires an uphill walk and gives a higher view over the village and surrounding fields.
Visitors interested in architecture, village planning and slow-paced photography should allow time for the full route. Families with children can start with the main street, Inkstone Pond and the creek gate, then decide whether to climb to Wangxiong Pavilion based on the group's energy.
Build your day
A 40-minute short route
Enter through the main gate, go first to Cangpo Creek Gate for the water view, then follow Brush Street to Inkstone Pond. Continue to Renji Temple and the old tree before returning by the same route. This keeps the parts of the village layout that are easiest to understand and suits visitors with limited time or another ancient village ahead.
The stone paths and narrow lanes are not suitable for rushing through. Let residents and other visitors pass before taking photographs. The surfaces become more slippery after rain, so wear flat shoes even on the short route.
A 1-2 hour slow visit
For a first visit, start at Cangpo Creek Gate and continue through the Li Clan Grand Ancestral Hall, Brush Street Ancient Well, Shuiyue Hall, Wangxiong Pavilion and the fields at the village edge before returning to Inkstone Pond. Leave time for the exteriors of old houses, the ponds and the residential lanes instead of repeatedly turning back to cover every small alley.
Some courtyards may have changing access arrangements. Confirm the entrance and the day's rules before going indoors. Do not treat cafes, stalls or privately run small shops as fixed route stops; if supplies may be limited, prepare drinking water in Yantou Town first.
A half-day ancient-village route
You can visit Cangpo Ancient Village first, continue to Furong Ancient Village and reach Lishui Street in the evening for the riverside street scene. The three stops are close, but they remain separate attractions, so confirm parking, tickets and the direction of departure at each one.
If rain is heavy, the roads are wet or someone in the group has limited stamina, visit only Cangpo and Lishui Street. The value of the ancient-village route is in walking slowly and observing details; do not compress every stop just to complete all three.
Get there
Driving
Navigate to the Cangpo Ancient Village car park. Parking costs about CNY 10 per visit, and roadside spaces may also be available near the entrance. Do not block residents' access when parking. On weekends, leave extra time to find a space if you arrive late.
High-speed rail and bus
A taxi from Nanxi River Station takes about 20-30 minutes to Cangpo Village. You can also go to Yantou Town and take a minibus toward Yantan, getting off at the Cangpo Village intersection; confirm the return services in advance.
Cangpo, Furong and Lishui Street are easier to connect by car or a short private transfer. Public transport does not guarantee a quick connection at every village entrance, so non-drivers should arrange transport away from the final stop before starting the route.
Know before you go
Residents' life and visitor boundaries
Cangpo is a residential village. Narrow lanes, courtyard walls and doorways may all be part of daily life. Stay on public roads and open areas, do not enter closed courtyards and do not take prolonged photographs or make noise outside residents' homes.
Surfaces, insects and supplies
The stone paths and old village lanes are uneven and can be slippery after rain, so wear flat shoes with good grip. Mosquitoes are common in summer. Retail and food choices are limited, so bring water and simple food if needed.
Ticket and stay expectations
Buying a ticket at the main entrance supports village maintenance and avoids misunderstandings caused by walking around the gate. The core area can be walked in about half an hour, while old-house and commercial access varies. Treat Cangpo as a cultural stop along the route rather than stretching the visit artificially.
