Plan at a glance
Location, entry and opening hours
Zhongshan Museum is at 197 Sunwen Middle Road in Shiqi, Zhongshan. The usual entrance is the main building's front door. The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:30, and closes on Mondays except public holidays. Individual visitors normally do not need a reservation; groups should follow the museum's reservation rules.
Tickets and visit planning
Admission is free, and individual visitors normally do not need to show an ID to enter. The museum fits easily into an old-city route with Sunwen West Road Pedestrian Street or Zhongshan Memorial Hall. Allow about 1.5 hours for a quick visit, or 2.5–3 hours for the history, overseas Chinese, radio and outdoor garden sections. Weekend afternoons are busier, so allow extra time for queues and breaks.

History and overseas Chinese galleries
The first-floor “Winds over Lingdingyang” history gallery uses a large lacquer mural and reconstructed scenes to introduce Zhongshan's history. The second-floor Overseas Chinese History Gallery uses qiaopi mail, travelling chests and family letters to explain the experiences of Zhongshan residents overseas. First-time visitors can follow the historical context before moving into personal stories; there is no need to spend the same amount of time on every display.
Radio collection and garden buildings
The China Radio Museum brings together a collection of older radios and suits visitors interested in everyday life, objects and design history. The new museum building connects with the former Overseas Chinese Hospital and the former residence of Zheng Zaoru, while the outdoor grounds include Tanhuo Corridor and Plum Garden. If someone in your group does not want a long indoor visit, divide the galleries and garden walk into separate parts.
Build your day
A 1.5-hour quick route
Start with the first-floor history gallery, continue upstairs to the Overseas Chinese History Gallery and China Radio Museum, then finish outside and collect a stamp near the exit. This works well when the museum is one stop in a half-day old-city route. If you are also visiting Sunwen West Road, keep an eye on the time in each gallery.
A 2.5–3-hour full route
Follow the first-floor history gallery, second-floor Overseas Chinese History Gallery, second-floor China Radio Museum, the third-floor Wugui Mountain exhibition and message wall, then the outdoor garden. Free guided-tour times may be offered according to the day's programme; the commonly listed times are reference points, not a guarantee. Check the schedule after arrival before deciding whether to wait.
Get there
Public transport and walking
Bus routes 002, 005 and 009 stop at “Zhongshan Memorial Hall Station (中山纪念堂站),” about a two-minute walk from the museum. Drivers can search for the museum's underground car park or the Zhongshan Memorial Hall car park opposite. From Zhongshan Station, a taxi takes about 15 minutes, making it practical to combine the museum with Sunwen West Road.
Parking and moving through the old city
The museum's underground car park has a reference price of CNY 5 per hour. The car park opposite at Zhongshan Memorial Hall is listed at CNY 6 per visit, but queues are possible. When weekend spaces are limited, park at Xingzhong Plaza Underground Parking and walk to the museum instead of circling the entrance repeatedly.
Know before you go
Indoor rules and temperature
Food and drinks are not allowed in the galleries, and flash photography is prohibited in the object displays. The air conditioning can feel strong, so bring a light layer if you get cold easily. Follow the photography rules in the light theatre; permissions for that area do not apply to the historic collections.
Tours, stamps and quieter times
There is a free stamping station near the exit, so bring a small notebook if you want to use it. Tuesday to Friday mornings are usually quieter than weekend afternoons and are better for a careful visit or for waiting for a guided tour. If you only want a quick overview, avoiding the weekend afternoon peak makes the route easier to control.
Nearby stops
After the museum, you can walk to Sunwen West Road Pedestrian Street, Xiangshan Commercial Culture Museum, Xishan Temple or Zhongshan Memorial Hall Park. Qijiang Park is another option. The museum is an indoor venue, while the surrounding street and parks keep different hours, so plan each part of the combination separately.
